Capsule Geology

The Chisholm occurrence is located immediately north east of Owen Lakes southern shore, 36.5 kilometres south of Houston and about 1 kilometre south of the Silver Queen mine.

The area is primarily underlain by an Upper Cretaceous series of volcanic rocks and intrusions of the Kasalka Group. The volcanic rocks consist mainly of massive rhyolite with a mixed assemblage of conglomerate, sandstone and felsic volcanics that are likely part of the Lower Cretaceous Skeena(?) Group (Bulletin 78, Figure 1). A sill-like body of microdiorite intrudes these volcanic rocks and has been dated as Late Cretaceous in age and is part of the Bulkley Plutonic Suite.

The showings are mainly hosted by highly altered felsic tuffs and tuff breccias. Four northwest veins have been discovered. Three subparallel veins form a group while a fourth vein occurs to the north of this group. The veins strike about 125 degrees and dip northeast. The quartz veins are mainly mineralized with argentiferous sphalerite, galena, pyrite, chalcopyrite, and tennantite-tetrahedrite in rhodochrosite, quartz, and barite gangue. Cherty quartz, carbonate and siderite, with some barite also constitute part of the gangue minerals. Small deposits of manganese oxides (wad) are also present.

For more information on the exploration history see the Silver Queen (093L 002) occurrence.

In 1915, a shipment of 34.4 tonnes of ore, from two shallow shafts on the Chisholm vein, graded 31 per cent lead and 206.4 grams per tonne silver (Property File Placer Dome Dawson, 1985).

In 2010, a program of geophysics (EM16), soil sampling and 4106.5 metres of NQ2 diamond drilling in 26 holes was conducted on the property. Drill hole 10S-01, located on an IP anomaly to the north east, intersected a silica-pyrite stockwork zone from 44 to 169 metres down hole containing minor values of gold and a 7-centimetre wide carbonate-silica-pyrite-sphalerite vein yielding 1.16 grams per tonne gold, 493.5 grams per tonne silver and 1.18 per cent copper over 0.13 metre (JDS Energy & Mining Inc. (2011-04-18): Technical Report for the Silver Queen Property).

In 2011, New Nadina Explorations Limited conducted ZTEM and Quantum 24 geophysical surveys. The aeromagnetic and electromagnetic survey covered 708.4 lines-kilometres and covered all mineral occurrences on the Silver Queen property including: the Silver Creek (Wrinch) (093L 002), Camp/Portal (new), Chisholm (093l 216), George Lake (new) and Cole (093L 162) systems and the Itsit porphyry (new).

Refer to Silver Queen (093L 002) for related geological and work history details.
