The area was originally staked in 1964 by Mr. W.H. Smith of Houston as the three Lybdenum claims, on the basis of molybdenum showings in the bank of a logging road. In 1965, the claims were optioned by Southwest Potash Corporation. Amax Explorations Incorporated acquired the claims in 1967 and drilled four holes totalling 300 metres. Molybdenum and copper were obtained throughout the entire lengths but at consistently low levels. During 1967 to 1969, the Lybdenum area was being explored by Moly Mines Explorations Limited as the Hall Group.

The claims are underlain by Lower Jurassic Hazelton Group volcanics of the Telkwa Formation comprised mainly of andesitic to dacitic pyroclastics, flows, breccia, and red to green tuffs with lapilli tuff. Minor interbedded greywacke, tuffaceous siltstone and shales strike north-northeast and dip between 15 and 35 degrees east.

The volcanics are intruded by a Late Cretaceous to Eocene quartz-feldspar porphyry plug which is intensely fractured and argillized. The intrusive plug is surrounded by Late Cretaceous to Early Tertiary Ootsa Lake volcanics comprised of flow banded rhyolite, rhyolitic crystal tuff and porphyritic quartz-eye rhyolites which are thought to be the extrusive equivalents of the porphyry stock. An advanced argillic alteration zone envelopes the intrusive and extrusive equivalents and is recognized by quartz and clay replacement of the feldspar.

Both the rhyolites and the quartz-feldspar porphyry are intensely fractured and invaded by several generations of quartz veins and veinlets which occur in parallel fractures or are multidirectional and crosscutting. A rare set of drusy veinlets are accompanied by an abundance of pyritohedral pyrite crystals. Also, minor late stage vuggy chalcedonic quartz veining hosts grey silica encapsulated by sulphide patches.

Molybdenite occurs in the quartz vein stockworks which are associated with the alteration envelope in the intrusive rocks. Pyrite is widespread throughout the argillic zone. In 1986 trenching uncovered scattered silver-rich, galena-sphalerite-tetrahedrite veins and veinlets associated with the contact zone in the altered volcanic rocks.

In 1982, chip samples of the veins assayed 0.095 grams per tonne gold, 0.381 per cent copper, 0.054 per cent MoS2 and 0.025 gram per tonne gold and 0.125 per cent MoS2 (Assessment Report 10903). In 1986, a sample of a pyrite-rich block assayed 0.55 gram per tonne gold, 6.9 grams per tonne silver, 0.01 per cent copper, 0.02 per cent lead and 0.01 per cent zinc. A sample from a galena-sphalerite stringer in altered tuff assayed 1.44 grams per tonne gold, 2403 grams per tonne silver, 1.51 per cent copper, 8.74 per cent lead and 7.31 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 15378).

Locally, a breccia pipe occurs along the north side of the quartz-feldspar porphyry. The breccia has a highly siliceous matrix with intensely argillized and sericitized fragments. In 1978, a sample of the breccia assayed 0.44 per cent MoS2, trace to 6.6 per cent lead, trace to 0.02 per cent tungsten, trace to 0.037 per cent tin and 0.2 to 1.0 per cent fluorine (Assessment Report 7060).

WORK HISTORY

The Lybdenum 1-3 claims were optioned by Amax Exploration, Inc from W.H. Smith, of Houston, in 1965; the adjacent Barr group of 40 claims was staked by the company. Work by Amax during the period 1965 to 1968 included geological, geophysical, and geochemical surveys, trenching, and 938.4 metres of diamond drilling in 4 holes.

A total of 121 claims in the BAY LB, CU, and Mag groups were staked adjacent to the above claims by Messrs. Anderson, Campbell, and associates, who in May 1969 incorporated Fortune Channel Wries Ltd. The Barr and Lybdenum groups were optioned from Mr. Smith by an August 1969 agreement. Work during 1969 to 1971 included geochemical soil surveys (973 samples), ground magnetometer surveys over 60 line-miles, and 824.7 metres of wireline diamond drilling. The Smith option was terminated in 1971 and the remaining claims subsequently expired. The company name was changed in 1972 to Consolidated Fortune Channel Mines Ltd.

In 1977, K. W. Livingstone staked the Jailbird and Jailbird 2 claims to cover ground originally covered by the lapsed Barr and Lybdenum claims. Work conducted in 1977 consisted of rock geochemical sampling in Amax' trenches.

In 1982 the area was restaked as the Gooch 1-4 claims by the Saskatchewan Mining Development Corporation who carried out soil, silt and rock sampling over much of the property to evaluate the precious metal potential. SMDC's work defined a zone of anomalous gold, silver, arsenic and molybdenum in soil within a broad area of advanced argillic alteration. No follow-up was conducted due to SMDC withdrawing from exploration in western Canada.

When the Gooch claims lapsed, BP Selco restaked the area as the Emerson Group. In 1985, BP collected 662 soil samples to further define soil anomalies located by SMDC. This work defined two interconnected anomalies, one in the area of Amax' trenching and a second anomaly to the southwest in an overburden covered area (Assessment Report 14174)

Lornex Mining Corporation Ltd optioned the property BP Minerals Ltd in 1986 and conducted geological mapping, rock sampling, minor soil sampling and 453 metres of backhoe trenching in order to locate the source of the 1.2 by 0.4 kilometre silver-lead-gold soil anomaly. Many of the new trenches did not reach bedrock because overburden is commonly greater than 4 metres thick. In 1987, an IP/Resistivity survey was conducted over the "up-ice" end of the silver-lead-gold soil anomaly to aid in locating drill targets which may be the source of the soil anomaly. Drill holes 1 to 3 were located to test the southeast IP anomaly and DDH87-4 was located to test the major northwest structure. Chargeability values out1ined two anomalies. One was centred near Amax Trench H and the other was tested by DDH-87-2 which intersected tuffs containing 2 to 5 per cent pyrite. DH87-2 was the only hole to reach bedrock in this area. DDH87-4 was not completed to the planned depth because of caving.

In 1995, Dave McCurdy and Harold Hendrickson prospected the Emerson prospect area and collected 18 samples for analysis (Assessment Report 24104).

In 2007, Richfield Ventures Corp examined and sampled the Sugarfoot property, owned by Patti Walker, towards the optioning of the property, which they declined doing (Assessment Report 30023).
