Capsule Geology

The Gut 2 occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1040 metres on a south-facing slope, approximately 11 kilometres north-northeast of the north end of Salmon Lake.

The area is underlain by calc-alkaline volcanic rocks of the Upper Triassic Witch Lake Formation (Takla Group), which have been intruded by Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic dioritic rocks.

In 1994, a sample (G9427001R) of quartz feldspar granite with disseminated pyrite and graphite assayed 0.275 gram per tonne gold and 118.0 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 23914).

Work History

The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Alpha (MINFILE 093J 038) and PM (MINFILE 093J 037) occurrences and a complete exploration history for the area can be found there.

In 1994, the Alpha claims lapsed and were re-staked in part by Hudson Bay Exploration & Development Co. Ltd as the Sam claims and in part by Talisman Silver Corporation as the Gut claims. Hudson Bay conducted prospecting traverses and collected a few rock samples for analyses. Talisman completed a program of geological mapping in areas of copper plus gold soil anomalies identified by Noranda.

In 1996, Lucero Resources Corp. completed a program of prospecting and soil sampling on the area immediately north as the Phil 7 claim. This work identified an epithermal quartz float train traced over a strike length of greater than 2 kilometres and an outcrop of weak quartz stockwork in volcanics, located approximately 1 kilometre north-northeast of the Gut 2 occurrence. Two float samples (PC-1A and -3A), located approximately 3 kilometres north-northeast of the occurrence, yielded 2.08 and 0.57 grams per tonne gold, respectively (Assessment Report 24810).

C.J. Greig & Associates conducted geophysical surveys on the Milly claims in 2020.
