The area of PM occurrence is underlain by Upper Triassic calc-alkaline volcanics of the Takla Group.
A northeast-directed fan of mineralized float discovered by Noranda in the late 1980s measures about 1500 metres long and 400-500 metres wide. Here, mineralized boulders weighing up to 23 kilograms have yielded values in the range of 0.1-1.0 per cent molybdenum, 0.17-2.4 per cent copper, 9-33.9 grams per tonne silver and 0.1-1.5 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 21473, 1991). Mineralization is described as “heavy concentrations of disseminated and veinlet pyrite, chalcopyrite and molybdenite hosted by strongly foliated, chlorite-rich rocks”. In 1996, the area of mineralized float was tested by 27 shallow, vertical percussion drill holes which failed to intersect significant mineralization.
A possible source area for the mineralized float may occur further up-ice, in a 2.5 square kilometre area containing a cluster of moderately to strongly anomalous IP chargeability anomalies. Silt samples taken from streams draining the IP anomalous area yielded consistently anomalous gold values in the 200-500 ppb range.
In 1987, prospector Gerry Klein located copper and molybdenum-hearing float and in 1982 Noranda exploration Klein’s PM property in what later became the northeast part of the Captain property. Noranda completed a small soil geochemical survey in the area of mineralized float.
During 1989 through 1991, Noranda Mining and Exploration Inc. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (biogeochemical, rock and soil) sampling, ground magnetic and induced polarization surveys and airborne geophysical surveys on the area.
In 1989, three mineralized float samples (111310 through 111313) yielded values up to 0.611 per cent molybdenum, 0.204 per cent copper, 33.9 grams per tonne silver and 0.103 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 19115).
In 1990, mineralized float samples yielded up to 2.4 per cent copper, 1.0 per cent molybdenum, 24 grams per tonne silver and 0.900 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 21473).
Also in 1991, Goldbelt Mines Inc. completed a 531.0 line-kilometre airborne geophysical survey on the area immediately northeast of the PM occurrence as the PO 1-7 claims.
In 1996, Guinet Management optioned the PM property, completed soil geochemistry and prospecting surveys on it and then drilled 27 percussion holes totaling 1,149 m. Twenty of the percussion drillholes intercepted bedrock, with intervals containing pyrite, magnetite and minor malachite being intercepted. Elevated molybdenum values are reported in zones of quartz monzonite whereas disseminated pyrite mineralization in Takla Group volcanics yielded up to 0.101 gram per tonne gold over 3.0 metres in hole 17 (Assessment Report 24998). A sample (PM-W-4/N-4) assayed 0.128 per cent copper and 29.8 grams per tonne silver, whereas other samples (K96-PM-1/K-1 and PM-W-7/N-7), located approximately 550 metres to the southeast and1 kilometres to the southwest of the previous sample, assayed 0.177 and 0.048 per cent molybdenum, 0.514 and 0.152 per cent copper, 5.6 and 2.0 grams per tonne silver with 0.126 and 0.025 gram per tonne gold, respectively (Assessment Report 24542). No sample descriptions are provided but they are likely float boulder samples.
In 2007, B.K. Bowen and Gordon Richards staked a large block of MTO cell claims east, northeast, west and south of their original Captain property (see Windy (MINFILE 093J 024). The expanded property is referred to as the Greater Captain (Assessment Report 30194) or the QTSP (Assessment Report 29908) property. The expanded claims to the east and northeast cover the old Sam, Gut, Alpha and PM properties. Those to the west and south were staked to cover various geochemical and geophysical targets underlain by favourable Quesnel Terrane geology. In 2007, all claims were subsequently acquired by Orestone Mining Corp. through a property purchase agreement between Orestone and Ruanco Enterprises Ltd (Gordon Richards and B.K. Bowen).
In 2007, Orestone completed a program of MMI soil geochemical (521 samples collected), induced polarization (30.5 km completed) and ground magnetics (30.5 km completed) surveys in the northern part of the property (in what was the old Windy property area). Highlight of the work was the identification of a large, approximately 3 square kilometres chargeability anomaly locally associated with copper and gold soil anomalies. These coincident geophysical and geochemical anomalies are thought to be indicative of a porphyry-type copper-gold target. No work was reported for the PM area.
In 2008, Orestone Mining Corp carried out a program of NQ2 diamond drilling in the northern part of the Captain property (in what was the old Windy property area). Six holes totaling 1,103 metres were completed. Four holes tested structurally-controlled mineralization and two holes tested a small portion of the 3 square kilometres chargeability anomaly. Only results for hole 08-02 were published (Assessment Report 30194). No work was reported for the PM area.
In 2019, C.J. Greig and Associates completed a 760.0 line-kilometre airborne geophysical survey on the area as the Milly property.
