Capsule Geology

The Mac 1-8 occurrence is located north of the McLeod River and south of Des Creek, approximately 11.5 kilometres southwest of the community of McLeod Lake.

Regionally, the area is underlain by mudstone, siltstone, shale and fine clastic sedimentary rocks and basaltic volcanic rocks of the Jurassic to Triassic Takla Group, which are cut by narrow bands of Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic ultramafic rocks.

Limited outcrop in the MAC 1-8 area is observed to be hornfelsed sediments (argillite?) and pyroxenite with traces of chalcopyrite. The pyroxenite, intruded as a large dike or sill, trends across the area as indicated by airborne magnetic map. The map indicates that the ultramafic body trends for at least 4 kilometres in a northwest direction and is likely to be at least 100 to 200 metres wide and in places up to 500 metres.

Work History

In 1974, El Paso Mining and Milling Co. completed a program of geological mapping and soil sampling on the area as the Bruce 1-4 claims. In 1980, Ranger Oil Limited completed a rock and soil sampling program on the area as the Des 1 claim. In 1986, Plasway National Research Ltd. prospected and sampled the area. In 1987, Ezekiel Explorations Ltd. completed an airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey on the area.

A 1989 grid located northwest and southeast of Beaverhouse Lake was established by Ezekiel Explorations Ltd and Plasway National Resources Ltd., who held claims over the region at that time. Soil samples collected from the grid in 1989 yielded values over 900 parts per billion platinum and 200 parts per billion palladium. In 1993, the Plasway claims were allowed to lapse.

In 1990, a 124.0 line-kilometre ground magnetic and electromagnetic survey was completed on the property.

Soil sampling (63), rock chip sampling (40) and prospecting was done on the MAC 1-8 claims in 1994 by owner L. Dandy in the area of the previous Ezekiel and Plasway work. The soil sampling survey was designed to confirm the previously defined anomalous platinum and palladium zones. Rock samples were taken from ultramafic or other mineralized outcrop, and from small pits dug at anomalous soil stations. One 1994 soil sample yielded values of 155 parts per billion platinum and 48 parts per billion palladium. Although this was lower than the original 1989 results of 920 parts per billion platinum and 44 parts per billion palladium, it confirmed the presence of a significant anomaly at this location. The most significant 1994 result was obtained from rock pieces that assayed 0.955 gram per tonne platinum and 0.098 gram per tonne palladium (Assessment Report 24200). This rock sample came from the same soil sample location that yielded 920 parts per billion platinum and 44 parts per billion palladium from soil in 1989. The rock chips taken from this soil hole in 1994 were angular pieces of pyroxenite confirming the theory that platinum on this property is related to the pyroxenite body.

During 2012 through 2014, Almo Capital Corp. completed programs of prospecting and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the area as the D.D. property.

In 2020 and 2021, Golden Planet Mining Corp. completed a regionally extensive program of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical (rock, till and soil) sampling and a 4851.0-line-kilometre airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey on the area as the Rider property.
