The McLeod Lake dolomite occurrence is located east of McLeod Lake and approximately 5 kilometres north of Firth Lake.
Regionally, the area is underlain by limestone, marble and calcareous sedimentary rocks of the Cambrian to Ordovician Kechika Group; Silurian limestone, slate, siltstone and argillite; undivided sedimentary rocks of the upper Silurian to Lower Devonian Tapioca sandstone; and Devonian dolomitic carbonate rocks.
Locally, a Geological Survey of Canada map indicates the area as being underlain the Upper Ordovician to middle Silurian Sandpile Group. This group is mapped in northwest-trending zones in the northeast quadrant of Mapsheet 093J. The group consists of limestone, dolomite, quartzite and calcareous and dolomitic sandstone.
