The AHBAU LAKE NORTH placer gold occurrence is located west of the north end of Ahbau Lake approximately 42 kilometres northeast of Quesnel, B.C. and 4 kilometres south of the former Ahbau Creek placer gold producer.
The Ahbau Lake area is characterised by thick glacial and glaciofluvial sediments, underlain primarily by schist of the Snowshoe Group.
In 1984 and 1975, Halferdahl & Associates Ltd. instigated exploration programs in the Ahbau, Hay and Lodi lakes area. Lake sediment sampling as well as soil sampling were conducted in addition to electromagnetic, magnetometer, self potential and gravimetric surveys. These surveys resulted in a number of anomalous self potential and electromagnetic responses coincident with gravimetric and/or magnetic anomalies (Assessment Reports 5155, 5606). Two of these anomalies were drill tested in latter 1975 with 274.4 m of diamond drilling in two holes located east of the north end of Ahbau Lake. No economically significant results were obtained (Assessment Report 5917).
In 2024, six Rotary Air Blast (RAB) holes totalling 186.2 metres were drilled through glacial sediments west of the north end of Ahbau Lake for partners Alex Loo, 3RT Smart Gold Holdings Inc. and Three Red Trees Holdings Ltd. Drill hole AH-03 returned values of 329 grams per tonne gold from a 96.6 gram sample, obtained over the initial 18.3 metres, while drill hole AH-05 showed 391 grams per tonne gold from 49.5 grams of sample taken from 32 to 42.7 metres depth. In addition, visible gold was obtained from panning returns from drill hole AH-01 (Assessment Report 42269).
