Capsule Geology

The Dave occurrence is located on a northeast-trending ridge of Mount Davidson.

The area is underlain by felsic volcanic rocks of the Lower to Middle Jurassic Entiako Formation (Hazelton Group) and felsic to andesitic volcanic rocks of the Eocene to Oligocene Ootsa Lake Formation (Nechako Plateau Group). For a complete description of regional geology see the Blackwater (MINFILE 093F 037) occurrence.

In 1984, a rock sample (6426) of dacite(?) with stringers of sphalerite and pyrite and disseminated pyrite assayed 0.36 per cent zinc and 4.8 grams per tonne silver, whereas a sample (6427) of hornfels(?) with actinolite clots and veinlets and fracture-filling pyrite and pyrrhotite assayed 0.16 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 19161).

In 1988, two samples (2019 and 2020) of basalt with pyrite and sphalerite assayed 0.233 and 0.183 per cent zinc, respectively (Assessment Report 19161).

In 1994, a drillhole (DAV-94-40) intercepted a tuff with thin interbeds of rhyolite ash and ash lapilli tuff cut by feldspar porphyritic dikes with disseminated and lesser veinlets of pyrite and pyrrhotite yielding values of up to 0.175 gram per tonne gold and 14.3 grams per tonne silver over 1.0-metre intervals (Assessment Report 23963).

Work History

The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Blackwater (MINFILE 093F 037) occurrence and a complete exploration history can be found there.

In 1981, Granges Inc. completed a ground electromagnetic survey on the area immediately east of the occurrence as the Deb claim.

During 1984 through 1988, Dave Rozek completed programs of prospecting and geochemical (silt, soil and rock) sampling on the area as the Dave claim.

Also in 1987, a program of prospecting and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling was completed on the area immediately west of the occurrence as the Chief claim.

In 1993, Jane Verhiel completed a program of prospecting and soil sampling on the Dave claim.

In 1994, Granges Inc. completed a program geological mapping, geochemical sampling, airborne and ground geophysical surveys and five diamond drill holes, totalling 759.4 metres, on the Pem (MINFILE 093F 037) and Dave claims.

In 2005, an 8.5 line-kilometre ground electromagnetic and magnetic survey was completed on the Jarrit claim, adjacent and to the east of the Dave occurrence.

In 2007, a program of soil sampling was completed on the Dave claim.
