The Liesegang occurrence is located on a gentle north-northwest–facing slope, approximately 7.5 kilometres east-northeast of Mount Swannell.
The area is underlain by volcanic rocks of the Early to Middle Jurassic Entiako Formation (Hazelton Group).
The occurrence consists of a float boulder of epidote, quartz, and carbonate vein material with up to 3 per cent native copper and trace malachite. The same epidote, quartz and carbonate veins occur in outcrop crosscutting amygdaloidal basalt. The basalt contains exceptionally well developed Liesegang rings.
Work History
In 2010, St. Elias Mines Ltd. completed a 1450.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey on the area as the Nechako Gold property.
In 2012, Deveron Resources Ltd. completed a program of rock, silt, and soil sampling on the area as the KL 1-28 claims of the Nechako Gold property.
In 2016, Little Bear Gold Corp. completed a program of prospecting, geological mapping and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the area as part of the Big Bear property. Two float samples (2575012 and 2575013) of quartz-epidote plus/minus calcite–veined basalt with native copper from the Liesegang occurrence yielded 2.747 and 3.008 per cent copper with 7.2 and 8.6 grams per tonne silver, respectively (Assessment report 36473).
In 2017, New Gold Inc. completed a program of prospecting, geological mapping and geochemical (rock, soil, and heavy mineral) sampling on the area as the Big Bear North area of the Nechako Gold property. A rock sample (L017056) assayed 2.79 per cent copper and 9.0 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 36886).
