Capsule Geology

The Spires showing is hosted in rocks of the Lower Jurassic Telkwa Formation, Hazelton Group. A small Eocene stock of the Coast Plutonic Complex intrudes the strata to the immediate southwest of the area. Extensive masses of quartz diorite of the Middle Jurassic Trapper Plutonic Suite intrude to the north, west and south.

Chalcocite bearing quartz plus/minus carbonate veining appears to be associated with northwest-trending, steep dipping mafic dikes cutting intermediate volcaniclastics. Veining is extremely discontinuous and has only been observed up to 10 centimetres in width. A select grab sample (90-MNJL-007) from an amygdaloidal volcanic or volcaniclastic containing 30 per cent chalcocite assayed 16.18 grams per tonne gold with 7.3 per cent copper and 220 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 20542). Attempts were made in 1990 to trace this mineralization, but in spite of good exposure no continuity to the system could be documented.

In 2007, an unsuccessful attempt was made to locate the Spires showing while stream sediment sampling. Given its small size and poor strike extent, the showing it could not be located However, 6 grab samples were taken approximately 800 metres to the east of where the Spires Showing is thought to be located. Assay results indicate elevated copper and silver along with sporadic gold and low lead-zinc.

Refer to New Moon (093E 011) for related geological and work history details of those showings such as the Spires showing that occur on the New Moon property.
