Capsule Geology

The Number 3 Barb showing is largely underlain by volcaniclastic and sedimentary rock of the Middle Jurassic Smithers Formation, Hazelton Group. Quartz dioritic stocks, dikes and plugs of the Late Cretaceous Bulkley Plutonic Suite and Eocene felsitic intrusive rocks intrude the strata.

A series of north-trending quartz and quartz-calcite veins occur. There are about 12 veins varying from 10 centimetres to 1 metre in width and over 200 metres (the 200 metre value could be length or the breadth in which the veins occur across.) They are poorly exposed in red, tuffaceous mudstone and lapilli tuff. Veins contain chalcopyrite, bornite, sphalerite, pyrite and minor hematite. Anomalous gold and silver were noted (samples 104 to 110), with 10.5 and 12.2 grams per tonne silver and 0.16 and 0.07 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 13043).

Refer to Barb (093E 109) for common details of the Barb and Sue claims.
