The LA occurrence is located 14 kilometres east of the village of Likely, on the west side of a south-flowing creek that empties into the southern end of Spanish Lake, approximately 3.5 kilometres downstream of the showing.

The area lies within the eastern part of the Quesnellia terrane. This region is underlain dominantly by fine-grained metasedimentary rocks, which are in contact with the Barkerville terrane. The metasedimentary rocks comprise mainly dark-grey phyllite and silty slate considered to be of the Middle to Upper Triassic. Part of the black phyllite succession is informally correlated with the Nicola Group but has also been informally referred to as the Quesnel River Group sediments.

Several soils collected by Barker Minerals Ltd. in the LA showing vicinity in 2013 returned anomalous gold (up to 49 parts per billion) and silver (up to 1.21 parts per million) (Assessment Report 35012). In 2015 and 2016, the area between the LA showing and the B.B. showing (Minfile 093A 331) was prospected and rock samples were taken. Zinc results over 100 parts per million were widespread, ranging up to 1,341 parts per million. Copper (up to 529 parts per million) was anomalous in the same area as zinc though with less frequency (Assessment Report 35945).

Locally, black phyllites host quartz veins with gold values. In 2015, an argillite float rock sample (No.4780), obtained to the southwest of the LA showing, yielded 10.23 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 36161). In 2018, a rock sampling program across outcrops was conducted by Barker Minerals in areas immediately south and east of the LA showing. South of the LA showing, six samples returned values of 9.34 to 11.7 grams per tonne gold; Sample 4600 graded 11.54 grams per tonne gold and 0.197 per cent zinc. Two samples collected east of the LA showing ran 9.9 and 264.42 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 37998). Follow up sampling in 2019 in the LA East area resulted in four samples returning between 9.74 and 22.06 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 38655).

From 2011 through 2019, the Black Bear East property was prospected and soil, stream sediment and rock (float, subcrop, outcrop) samples were taken by Barker Minerals Ltd. From east to west, the property included the Hobson occurrence (93A 074), Black Bear East - North (093A 333) and South zones (093A334), LA, B.B. (093A 331), Big (093A 151) and Providence (093A 003).
