The Purple Creek (No.5) occurrence is located on Beaver Creek, near the north side of China Cabin Lake.
The area is underlain by Lower and Upper Triassic Nicola Group basalts and volcaniclastics. Younger Miocene flood basalts overlie the Jurassic volcanics. Tertiary silica conglomerate outcrops are found on ridges to the west of China Cabin Lake.
Locally, disseminated chalcopyrite is hosted by dense purplish volcanic flows and augite andesite tuff over a distance of 3 metres. Minor epidotization with hematite and magnetite are also noted. No assays were reported.
In 1967, a program of regional prospecting and sampling was completed by the Keweenaw Sydnicate. In 1984, a 17.6 line-kilometre ground magnetometer survey was completed on the area as the China 3 claim.
