The LIGHTNING STRIKE prospect is located in the Deception Creek area of the Caribou Plateau near its confluence with Spanish Creek, approximately 10 kilometres north of the west end of Mahood Lake, 60 kilometres northeast of 100 Mile House.
To date most of the mineralized areas occur west of Deception Creek. Showings are within a sedimentary unit composed of an east coarsening sequence of black argillaceous phyllite, shale, siltstone and sandstone, belonging to the Lemieux Creek Succession (Nicola Group). Nicola volcanic rocks border the western edge of the property.
Variable amounts of coarse-grained cubic pyrite porphyroblasts, fine-grained disseminated pyrite and pyrite stringers were observed in the phyllite and siltstone within the prospect area, and in red-orange yellow iron and local manganese stained bedrock, with deposits of ferricrete locally coating the phyllite. Galena, sphalerite and arsenopyrite also appear to be correlated with gold mineralization. Distinct orange rust coloured oxidized ankerite rhombs are a defining and pervasive alteration feature of the phyllite. Silicification and sericitization are also notable alteration features. Quartz veining is prevalent, mostly as fine quartz-carbonate veinlets. Significant intervals of thick quartz stockwork and breccia zones coincide with significant gold grades.
Highlights from the 2008-2009 drilling by Skygold Ventures include 11.75 metres assaying 1.28 grams per tonne gold and 29.65 grams per tonne silver in hole SC021 and 5.8 metres of 1.49 grams per tonne gold and 9.24 grams per tonne silver in hole SC023.
In 2021, trenching on the Lightning Strike property returned values of 5.0 grams per tonne gold and 63.6 grams per tonne silver (sample 720881 from Trench LM-44). From Trench LM-66, 325 metres south of LM-44, sample 145253 assayed 2.31 grams per tonne gold and 95.9 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 40337).
The best results of the 2021 Cariboo Rose RC drilling were located south of the historic holes in the Deception Zone (the Cariboo Rose “A” soil grid). Mineralization at this new zone was traced for 425 metres in a northeast direction. Hole LSRC21-06 returned 0.62 gram per tonne gold and 7.2 grams per tonne silver over 38.1 metres, which included 4.6 metres of 2.69 grams per tonne gold and 6.1 grams per tonne silver. Hole LSRC21-08, 250 metres to the northwest, returned intervals of 1.0 gram per tonne gold and 34.3 grams per tonne silver over 7.6 metres.
WORK HISTORY
The first recorded work in the area was biogeochemical surveys conducted on the IQ claims east of Deception Creek in 1973 and again in 1988 along with electromagnetic and magnetic surveys by C.W. Hunt and resulting in local molybdenum anomalies. In 1984, Homestake Mineral Development Company focused on their Treasure Chest claims, west of Deception Creek, as part of a regional geological and geochemical reconnaissance program. Outcrop is scarce in the area, but trenching exposed quartz-carbonate boulders returning values up to 25.1 grams per tonne, accompanied by up to 216.8 grams per tonnne silver (Assessment Report 13293).
In 2006, Skygold Ventures Ltd. commenced programs of geological mapping, soil, stream sediment and rock sampling on their Spanish Creek/Thunder Ridge property, with a detailed soil grid over the Homestake anomaly. In 2007, the anomaly was confirmed by more trenching and soil and rock sampling and was extended 1.3 kilometres southward. Pit samples returned significant gold values in quartz float ranging from 0.13 to 5.26 grams per tonne, with the highest result from angular quartz float carrying pyrite and galena (Assessment Report 29139).
Drilling commenced in 2008 and continued until 2010, with a total of 8220.8 metres of NQ core drilled in 31 holes. Also during this time, soil grids were extended to the south and east. An airborne geophysical survey was completed in 2009, measuring magnetics and electromagnetics (Assessment Reports 30377, 31360).
In 2019 and 2020, soil silt and rock geochemical sampling by Cariboo Rose Resources Ltd. extended the historical gold and silver in soil anomaly 1 kilometre to the south. Work also resulted in rock samples with gold values up to 2.1 grams per tonne from another area two kilometres to the northeast. This work was followed up by a program of trenching and rock sampling and 1462.97 metres of RC (reverse circulation) drilling in 2021 (Assessment Report 40337) and 1467.6 metres of RC drilling in 2022 (Assessment Report 41221).
Cariboo Rose Resources optioned the Thunder Ridge gold-silver property adjacent to Lightning Strike in 2025 and commenced another diamond drilling program on the Lightning Strike property in the fall of the same year (PR REL Cariboo Rose Resources Jan. 17 and Oct. 21, 2025).
