The Stat 2 occurrence is located in the northern headwaters of the eastern tributary of Youghpan Creek, referred to as Steves Creek, and approximately 3.7 kilometres north-northwest of Henriksen Point on Holberg Inlet.
The area is underlain by rhyolite, felsic volcanics and mafic volcanics of the Middle Jurassic Bonanza Group (Holberg volcanic unit) and sediments of the Lower Cretaceous Longarm Formation (Queen Charlotte Group). The volcanics have been intruded by quartz diorite to granodiorite of the Lower to Middle Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite.
Locally, a dioritic intrusive with quartz veins, up to 0.25 metre wide, hosts sphalerite, chalcopyrite and pyrite mineralization. The veins strike northeast and dip vertically. The veined zone has been traced for at least 200 metres along the creek.
In 1990, a rock sample (HOL-09) assayed 0.860 per cent copper, 0.144 per cent lead, 0.452 per cent zinc, 518.1 grams per tonne silver and 3.16 grams per tonne gold over 0.20 metre, whereas another sample (HOL-08) yielded 0.465 per cent copper, 0.122 per cent lead and 2.64 per cent zinc over 0.25 metre (Assessment Report 20023). Later that year, rock samples collected approximately 400 metres to the southeast were reported to have yielded up to 0.86 per cent copper and 8.9 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 21053).
In 1992, a drillhole (W-92-8), located approximately 900 metres southwest, intersected chalcopyrite mineralization near the contact between silicified, chloritized and biotite-altered diorite and andesite, whereas drillhole W-92-14, located 150 metres southwest of the drillhole W-92-8, intersected a diorite hosting magnetite-pyrite-chalcopyrite veins.
Work History
