The GD occurrence is located between Kwois Creek and the Kauwinch River, approximately 5.5 kilometres north of Silburn Lake.
The area is underlain by Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group rocks, consisting of andesitic flows, tuffs and agglomerates. Minor sediments are interbedded with the volcanic rocks. These have been intruded by the Kauwitch intrusive stock of the Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite.
Locally, disseminated and fracture- controlled chalcopyrite and molybdenite mineralization is hosted by granodiorites of the Kauwitch stock. Pyrite, pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite are reported to occur in the altered volcanic rocks near the intrusive contact.
The area was originally staked in 1969 with the first recorded exploration work being completed in 1974 by Moneta Porcupine Mines. In 1991, Stow Resources completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical sampling and prospecting on the Kwois claims. Selected grab samples yielded values of up to 1663 parts per million copper and 192 parts per million molybdenum (Assessment Report 22168).
