Capsule Geology

The Hol occurrence is located on south west facing slopes of a ridge separating Glerup and Native creeks.

The area is largely underlain by volcanics and sediments of the Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group, which are in fault contact with limestone of the Upper Triassic Vancouver Group, Quatsino Formation. The main belt of limestone lies to the west and east, with fault slices found north and south of the showing.

Locally, on the Hol 3 claim, porphyritic amygdaloidal basalt of the Bonanza (?) Group is intruded by an augite bearing basic dike. The dike may have been a feeder of the volcanics. Epidote, zeolite, prehnite, quartz and calcite amygdules are present, resulting from low grade regional metamorphism. Copper occurs within the intrusive as bornite and chalcopyrite. Near the contact with the volcanics are zones containing sulphides and hematite. Native copper, bornite, azurite and malachite are found in fractures and joints in the volcanics.

Work History

In 1968, Nicola Lake Minerals completed a program of airborne geophysical surveys on the area as the Hol Group. In 1972, Holberge Mines completed a program of airborne geophysical surveys on the area as the Jay Property.

In 2018 and 2019, District Metals Corp. completed programs of prospecting, geological and structural mapping, geochemical (rock, soil and stream sediment) sampling and an 804 line-kilometre airborne geophysical (VTEM ) survey on the area as the Bakar property.
