Capsule Geology

The Seal occurrence is located on the south shore of Holberg Inlet, approximately 4.8 kilometres east of Holberg.

The area is underlain by volcanics and sediments of the Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group. Upper Triassic Vancouver Group Karmutsen and Quatsino Formations are found along the south shore of Holberg Inlet.

Locally, native copper is found on the old Seal group as minute flakes associated with quartz, calcite and prehnite in an altered, chloritized amygdaloidal basalt of the Karmutsen (?) Formation. The greatest width of mineralization is reported to be 61 centimetres.

Work History

In 1972, Holberg Mines completed a program of airborne geophysical surveys on the area as the Jay Property.

In 2018 and 2019, District Metals Corp. completed programs of prospecting, geological and structural mapping, geochemical (rock, soil and stream sediment) sampling and an 804 line-kilometre airborne geophysical (VTEM ) survey on the area as the Bakar property.
