The Northern One gravel occurrence is located at Lloyd Point in Homfrey Channel, approximately 50 kilometres northeast of the community of Campbell River.
The area is underlain by granitic batholiths of the Juro-Cretaceous Coast Plutonic Complex within which are contained small northwest trending remnants of metamorphosed country rock.
The aggregate occurrence is characterized as a “raised delta” type. Sand and gravel deposits appear to be derived from till deposits created in Pleistocene to Recent time, possibly in a marine environment. Components vary from coarse boulders, some larger than one metre in diameter, to gravel and fine sand. The presence of small quantities of clay and similar fine fractions is recognized but particles in surface outcrops that have been examined are only very weakly cemented or are merely compacted.
In 2002, the area was staked and minor sampling was completed before the claims were allowed to lapse. In 2007, the claims were restaked and a small program of sampling and mapping was completed.
