Capsule Geology

The Virosa (C960) occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1140 metres on a south-southwest–facing slope, approximately 2.6 kilometres northeast of the northeast end of Varga Lake and approximately 53 kilometres east-northeast of the community of Campbell River.

Regionally, the area is underlain by basaltic volcanic rocks of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen Formation (Vancouver Group) and undivided volcanic rocks of the Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group. To the northeast the previous groups have been intruded by granodiorite of the Lower to Middle Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite.

Locally, at the Virosa (C960) zone a 0.5- to 15.0-metre-wide quartz veined (hydrothermal vent?) zone hosts chalcopyrite, pyrite, bornite and covellite mineralization. The veined zone strikes approximately 355 degrees with a dip of 75 to 80 degrees to the southwest and has been traced along surface by hand pits and trenches for several hundred metres. Similar mineralization is reported from a separate zone, referred to as the C900 zone, located approximately 550 metres to the south-southwest.

In 2002, two samples (6 and 7) from the main Virosa (C960) occurrence yielded 0.78 and 6.80 per cent copper with 9.5 and 31 grams per tonne silver, respectively, whereas three grab samples (1, 2 and 9) from the C900 zone yielded from 1.74 to 6.40 per cent copper and 13.3 to 15.8 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 27194).

In 2004, two channel samples (T2 and T3) from trenches T2 and T3 on the main Virosa (C960) occurrence yielded 1.1 and 4.8 per cent copper with 30.96 and 42.4 gram per tonne silver, respectively, whereas a grab sample (20031) from a hand pit, located approximately 400 metres to the northwest of the main zone, yielded 8.7 per cent copper and 52.5 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 27562).

In 2006, a channel sample (L3) from trench L3 on the main Virosa (C960) occurrence assayed 17.0 per cent copper, 90.1 grams per tonne silver and 0.12 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 28552).

Work History

In 2002, Mike Doknjas staked the area as the Virosa property and completed a program of prospecting and rock sampling. During 2003 through 2006, further programs of prospecting, rock sampling and trenching were completed on the property.
