The Star showing is located north west of Menzies Creek, approximately 3.5 kilometres west of Brown Bay.
The area is underlain by a very thick, gently dipping to flat-lying sequence of Upper Triassic submarine volcanic flows of the Karmutsen Formation. Locally minor interflow sediments occur.
The occurrence is described as sporadic native copper mineralization.
In 1969, rock dust samples were obtained by a hand held drill to a depth of 30 centimetres. The best assay was 0.60 per cent copper for a sample 7.6 metres away from the mineralization (Assessment Report 2004).
In 2018, a sample (32330) containing native copper from an old blast pit assayed 0.610 per cent copper (MacIntyre, D. (2019-01-29): Technical Report - Sunset Copper Star Mineral Property).
Work History
In 1969, Calmac Mines completed a program of rock and soil sampling on the area as the Chal claim group. In 2007 and 2008, J.L. Paquet, later Western Gateway Minerals, completed programs of geochemical sampling on the area as the Copper Tree claims. In 2018, Rich River Exploration Ltd. completed a program of rock, soil and silt sampling on the area as the Sunset Copper Star property.
