The Salal Creek pumice prospect outcrops discontinuously along road cuts just east of Salal Creek and continues southeastward along the northeast side of the Lillooet River for 3.2 kilometres.

The pumice, of the Pliocene to Recent Garibaldi Group, is being assessed for use in the manufacture of light weight concrete blocks, kitty litter, stonewash denim, soil conditioners and landscaping stone (F. Reyes, personal communication, 1991).

An approximately 4.0 metre thick dacite pumice layer has been deposited with local thicknesses up to 10.0 metres (Assessment Report 33493).

In 1999, trenching yielded an estimated potential pumice resource of 6,300,000 cubic metres with a probably resource of 672,000 cubic metres (Assessment Report 26432).

In 2005, test pitting identified a measured and indicated resource of 1,387,000 cubic metres of fine to coarse clast dacite pumice (Assessment Report 28481).

Garibaldi Pumice Ltd. forecast 20 000 m3 production for 2009.

In 2012, a measured plus indicated and inferred resource was reported:

- 8,200,000 cubic metres and 6,800,000 cubic metres of coarse pumice

- 2,000,000 cubic metres and 1,400,000 cubic metres of pumice

- 350,000 cubic metres and 550,000 cubic metres of fine grained, silt sized pumice

- 590,000 cubic metres and 570,000 cubic metres of overburden

In 1991, the area was prospected as the Pum claims. In 1999 and 2000, G.R. Matheson completed a program of trenching and sampling on the area as the Vulcan claims. In 2005, Garibaldi Aggregates completed a program of test pitting. In 2012, Garibaldi Pumice completed a program of test pitting.
