The Bonanza (shaft) occurrence is located on a north-northwest–trending ridge, south of Cayoosh Creek and at an elevation of approximately 830 metres.

The area is underlain by argillite, phyllite and schist of the Mississippian to Jurassic Bridge River Complex (Group) that have been recumbently folded and are cut by numerous shears and faults. A thrust fault runs north-south, parallel to the ridge along the western boundary of the old Bonanza claim block. Above the thrust, a thick sequence of carbonatized phyllite is cut by fine-grained andesitic to felsic dikes. Immediately below the thrust are dark, sheared argillites, in which the showings are hosted.

Locally, mineralization has been identified at a number of locations extending along a 155 degree trend including the Lower Bonanza zone at 620 metres elevation, the Upper Bonanza zone, located approximately 700 metres to the southeast at an elevation of 1020 metres and the Bonanza Arribba zone at 1380 metres elevation to the southeast. The Noel tunnel is located downslope and south of the Lower Bonanza zone.

At the Lower Bonanza zone, a principal vein, 30 to 52 centimetres wide, and numerous parallel quartz stringers in a dark argillite host were explored by three tunnels or adits and a shaft. The quartz-carbonate veins contain irregular chalcopyrite, pyrite, pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite mineralization with limonite, sericite and traces of mariposite. The vein strikes northwest and dips 85 degrees to the southwest. The mineralized zone is 0.9 to 1.8 metres thick and has been traced downdip for 18.3 metres.

The Upper Bonanza zone consists of a chloritic phyllite hosting sericitic quartz and quartz-carbonate veins with visible gold, pyrite, chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite mineralization near the contact with a feldspar porphyry. The veins strike 130 degrees with a dip of 30 degrees northeast and have been traced for approximately 100 metres along a southeast strike.

The Bonanza Arribba zone, located on the Bonanza (L.126) Crown grant at an elevation of approximately 1380 metres, consists of a 45-centimetre wide quartz vein that has been traced for 33 metres.

In 1934, a sample from the Bonanza Arribba zone vein assayed 0.7 gram per tonne gold (Property File - A. McLeod [1934-10-12]: Progress Report - Tunnel on Bonanza Group). Also at this time, sampling of the tunnel and shaft, located at approximately 1020 metres elevation, assayed 11.6 grams per tonne gold over 0.53 metre (Property File - S.J. Schofield [1935-06-25]: Reports on the Property of the Bonanza Cache Gold Mines Ltd. - Cayoosh Creek).

In 1935, a select sample (no. 6664) from a dump of one of the lower, un-named adits assayed 4.8 grams per tonne gold and 0.68 gram silver per tonne (Minister of Mines Annual Report 1935-F6).

In 1983, an adit-channel sample across 1 metre assayed 2.23 grams gold per tonne (Assessment Report 12571).

In 1985, sampling of the underground workings from the Lower Bonanza zone yielded 13.9 grams per tonne across an average width of 1.3 metres for a length of approximately 20 metres, whereas drilling yielded up to 3.3 grams per tonne gold (Property File - Gold-Ore Resources Ltd. In 1998, sampling of the Upper Bonanza zone yielded up to 7.7 grams per tonne gold over 2.9 metres from trench 1 at the northwest end of the zone, 7.4 grams per tonne over 1.7 metres from a trench located 10 metres to the southeast of trench 1, 8.7 grams per tonne gold over 1.6 metres from a trench 40 metres to the south of trench 1 and 37.4 grams per tonne gold over 1.5 metres from a trench 62 metres southeast of trench 1 (Property File - Gold-Ore Resources Ltd. In 1999, sampling of the Upper Bonanza zone yielded 15.4 grams per tonne gold over 1.0 metre from trench 1, 17.1 grams per tonne gold over 0.7 metre from trench 2, 18.4 grams per tonne gold over 0.5 metre from trench 3, 106.0 grams per tonne gold over 0.5 metre from trench 5 and 25.4 grams per tonne gold over 0.5 metre from trench 7 (Property File - Gold-Ore Resources Ltd. Also at this time, a chip sample over 1.0 metre from the Lower Bonanza zone assayed 25.3 grams per tonne gold (Property File - Gold-Ore Resources Ltd. [1999-12-23]: Report on the 1998 and 1999 Mineral Exploration Programs - Geology, Soil Geochemistry, Prospecting and Diamond Drilling - Ample/Goldmax Property).

In 2004, a 30-centimetre chip sample (178957) of heavy sulphides from the Bonanza decline assayed 32.68 grams per tonne gold (Property File - Canadian Resources House Ltd. [2004-06-10]: Technical Report - Ample-Goldmax Property).

The area has been explored since the late 1890s in conjunction with the nearby Golden Cache (MINFILE 092JNE094) occurrence. Old workings, extending for over 330 metres, include the Bonanza shaft, located on the border of the Bonanza (L.124) and Bonanza (L.125) Crown grants; the Noel tunnel near the border of the Bonanza No.3 (L.2276) and Surprise (L.5201A) Crown grants and two un-named tunnels on the Bonanza (L.123) Crown grant. During the 1930s, the area was examined and drilled by Bonanza Cache Gold Mines Limited.

In 1984, Harlin Resources optioned the area and the following year completed a program of underground mapping and sampling of the lower Bonanza workings and six diamond drill holes, totalling 221 metres. Gold-Ore Resources Limited optioned the property in 1998 and over the following year completed a program of soil sampling, geological mapping, prospecting and hand trenching. In 2002, Quartz Mountain Resources optioned the Ample-Goldmax property. In 2004, Canadian Resources House acquired the property and completed a program of geochemical sampling.
