The Pilot showing is located approximately 70 kilometres west of Lillooet, on the west bank of Gun Lake.

Hornblende-biotite quartz diorite, a basic phase of the Cretaceous to Tertiary Bendor Pluton, occurs in a northwest-trending tongue across the property, intruding Mississippian to Jurassic Bridge River Complex (Group) sediments. Quartzite, silicified argillite and foliated tuffs are metamorphosed to lower greenschist grade. The "Pilot shear" hosting the deposit trends southeast at the contact between silicified tuff of the Upper Triassic Noel Formation (Cadwallader Group) quartz diorite and Bridge River sediments.

The 3-metre wide shear contains a number of narrow, parallel quartz veins altered with sericite and kaolinite. Gold and silver values are continuous along this structure for 300 metres northwest. Another similar vein is reported to occur along the same trend approximately 150 metres west of the Pilot shear. A well-maintained portal to the Pilot vein is located near the mouth of Walker Creek on Gun Lake.

The area was first explored in 1917 when the Ypres claim group was staked by Messrs. O. Fergusson and C. Walker. Gun Lake Gold Mines Ltd. acquired the property in 1931 and transferred it to Cariboo-Bridge River Gold Properties in 1933. The property was purchased by Pilot Gold Mines Ltd. in 1934, who developed the Pilot Mine, consisting of drifts, crosscuts and a winze totaling 1,500 metres of underground workings. Work ended at the mine in 1945.

In 1980, Donald Sturgess completed a small geochemical sampling survey on the Kangaroo claim to the northeast of the Pilot workings.

The Pilot crown grants were held by John Tanconi in the early 1980s, who reported no work on the claims and allowed them to lapse.

In 1983, X-Calibre Resources Ltd. staked the 12 reverted crown grants comprising the Pilot claims and conducted an exploration program of geological mapping, rock sampling and trenching. A chip sample taken over 0.9 metre assayed 11.1 grams per tonne gold and 56.9 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 11877).

In 1991, Cogema Canada Ltd. conducted an exploration program consisting of mapping, prospecting rock, soil and stream sampling, and VLF-EM and magnetic geophysical surveys on the Pilot claim group. Highlights of this program included rock sample 285R, which assayed 0.85 gram per tonne gold and 1.2 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 22117).

In 2006, the Coon Tree property, which borders the old Pilot Mines workings, was staked by William Larry Amey.

In 2007, William Larry Amey completed two small prospecting programs on the Coon Tree property.

In 2012, BCT Mining Corp. and Goldbridge Holdings Ltd. controlled the Pilot claim group, except for a single claim which encompassed the Pilot MINFILE. The two companies completed an 8 line-kilometre ground magnetometer VLF-EM survey to the northeast of the Pilot workings.
