The Prospect Valley (Northeast Extension) occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1350 metres on a northeast-facing slope in the southern headwaters of Nuaitch Creek.
Regionally, the area is underlain by andesitic volcanic rocks of the Lower Cretaceous Spius Creek Formation (Spences Bridge Group), which are locally overlain by andesitic volcanic rocks of the Eocene Princeton Group. Granodioritic intrusive rocks of the Permian to Triassic Mount Lytton Complex outcrop to the southeast.
Locally, at the Northeast Extension (NEZ) zone, propylitically altered amygdaloidal basalts, tuff breccias and intraformational breccias host zones of silicified breccia and quartz±calcite±hematite stockworks with minor disseminated pyrite and associated gold values. The zone has been traced in outcrop for approximately 135 metres along a north-northeast strike and across a width of up to 32 metres. Very fine grained (less than 0.1 millimetre in size) native gold has been identified in soils adjacent to the mineralized outcrop. The mineralization is described as being similar to the nearby North Discovery (MINFILE 092ISW112) occurrence and a complete description can be found there.
The Ridge zone is located approximately 200 metres northwest of the NEZ zone and comprises northeast-striking (049 to 055 degrees), moderately northwest-dipping (51 to 65 degrees), 0.2- to 1.5-centimetre-wide quartz veins spaced 1 to 5 centimetres apart exposed over a 7- by 3-metre area of basalt. Quartz breccia veins, up to 11 centimetres wide, are also reported in this area.
In 2009, a chip sample (PV10-R24) of outcrop from the NEZ zone yielded 4.53 grams per tonne gold and 3.1 grams per tonne silver over 0.9 metre (Assessment Report 32333). Drilling, performed at this time, failed to intersect the projected down-dip extension of the mineralized zone.
In 2016, an outcrop sample (M126785) of quartz breccia from the NEZ zone assayed 0.82 gram per tonne gold, whereas two outcrop samples (M126788 and Q151988) from the Ridge zone yielded 1.25 and 7.47 grams per tonne gold, respectively (Assessment Report 36768).
Work History
The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby North Discovery (MINFILE 092ISW112) occurrence and a complete exploration history can be found there.
