The Pica showing is located in a roadcut east of Mowhokam Creek, approximately 11.1 kilometres northeast of the mouth of the creek.
The area is underlain by Triassic Mount Lytton Complex dioritic rocks and amphibolities. Locally altered medium to coarse-grained granodiorite and hornblende quartz diorite are sheared and jointed near the showing. Joint sets strike northeast and northwest.
Mineralization appears structurally controlled. Propylitic and potassic alteration is typical within joint sets and shear zones with characteristic epidote, feldspar and malachite staining. Disseminated chalcopyrite, pyrite and magnetite occur in shear zones up to 20 metres wide.
Work History
In 1982, Dan Cardinal completed a program of prospecting, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and minor trenching on the area as the Pica 1-2 claims. Rock samples yielded up to 3.74 per cent copper, 6.8 grams per tonne silver and 0.895 gram per tonne gold (Samples 49 and R-22R; Assessment Report 11200).
