The location of the Canford showing is described only as north of the Merritt-Spences Bridge Road, 1.5 kilometres west of Canford.

Rocks in the area are Upper Triassic Nicola Group volcanics. Gypsite, as much as 2 metres thick, underlies an area 280 metres long and 65 metres wide. British Columbia Cement Company shipped over 0.9 tonnes from the deposit in 1926.
