The Jac (Kik 200) occurrence is located on a northwest-trending ridge, approximately 2.2 kilometres west of the south end of Jac Lake.

The area is underlain by granodioritic intrusive rocks of the Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic Guichon Creek Batholith. The Chataway phase granodiorites cover most of the area; the Bethlehem phase granodiorites occur to the east and the Guichon phase granodiorites occur to the west. Porphyry dike swarms cut the intrusives.

Locally, on the Jac claims, trenching has identified a weakly mineralized quartz diorite over an area of approximately 60 by 9 metres. Mineralization comprising nests and platings of coarsely crystallized chalcopyrite and molybdenite adjoin north-trending fractures that dip steeply west (Minister of Mines Annual Report 1966). Weak chlorite-altered rock with trace sulphides outcrops 45 metres to the west of the trenching. Minor bornite and chalcopyrite occur in fractures in Bethlehem phase rocks just west of Jac Lake.

Immediately west of the previous zone, on the Key 9 claim, trenching has identified minor pyrite, chalcopyrite, bornite and molybdenum mineralization.

In 1976, sampling of trench no. 1 yielded an average of 0.70 per cent copper, 0.046 per cent molybdenum and 170 grams per tonne silver over 7 metres, whereas a sample (912) from trench no. 2, located approximately 1 kilometre east of the previous trench, assayed 0.2 per cent copper (Assessment Report 6488).

Work History

A historical adit, of unknown age, and numerous trenches are reported in the occurrence area.

In 1966, Riviera Mines Ltd. completed a program of soil sampling, minor trenching, and a 9.8 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the area as the Key claims.

In 1968, Cleveland Mining and Smelting Co. Ltd. completed a 11.0 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the area as the Jac claims. Also at this time, McIntyre Porcupine Mines Ltd. completed a program of soil sampling and a 33.0 line-kilometre magnetic survey on the area immediately south of the occurrence as the Jan and Hi claims. In 1969, Consolidated Gem Explorations Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and a 65.0 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the area as the Jac, Kam, CM and Cleve claims.

Also in 1968 and 1969, Pyramid Mining Co. Ltd. completed 76.0 line-kilometres of induced polarization surveys on the area as the Key, MB and Plus claims.

In 1976 and 1977, Leonard Peckham prospected the area as the Kik claims.

In 1980, Cominco Ltd. completed 60.0 line-kilometres of ground magnetometer and induced polarization surveys on the area as the Island property. The following year, 22.9 line-kilometres of induced polarization surveys were completed on the property. In 1982, Cominco Ltd. completed an induced polarization survey on the area as the Island property.
