The DES occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1360 metres on a northeast-facing slope, approximately 1.6 kilometres west-southwest of Desmond Lake.
The area is underlain by andesitic volcanic rocks of the Upper Triassic (Central Volcanic Facies) Nicola Group.
Locally, on the DES claims, meta-volcanic rocks are reported to host fractures and shears with minor chalcopyrite-bornite-chalcocite mineralization associated with calcite and hematite-chlorite alteration. The exact location of this mineralization is unknown.
Later work (1989) identified a basalt hosting native copper in three widely spaced drillholes (89-2, -6 and -7) and a zone of massive sulphides (chalcopyrite-bornite) associated with quartz and carbonate was exposed by a roadcut, located approximately 50 metres southeast of drillhole 89-1. Volcanic rocks in the area are variably chlorite-, epidote-, hematite- and carbonate-altered. A poorly defined northeast-trending structure cuts the area.
Work History
In 1972, Newco Ventures Ltd. completed a soil sampling program on the area as the DES claims. In 1979, a 4.1 line-kilometre ground magnetic and electromagnetic survey was completed on the DES claims.
In 1981, an induced polarization survey was completed on the DES claims. In 1982 and 1983, Visa Resources Ltd. completed programs of soil sampling and ground magnetic surveys on the area immediately north and east as the Nada 1-4 claims. Also in 1983, a ground magnetic survey was completed on the area immediately south as the Klara claim. In 1984, an induced polarization survey as completed on the Des claims.
During 1986 through 1988, Western Resources Technologies completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling and geophysical (induced polarization, electromagnetic and magnetometer) surveys on the surrounding area as the WRT claims.
In 1987, Menika Mining Ltd. completed a 3.0 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the DES claims. In 1989, seven diamond drill holes, totalling 2046.6 metres, were completed on the claims.
In 2006, Goldcliff Resources Corp. completed a program of prospecting and geochemical (rock and silt) sampling on the area as the Plug property.
In 2019 and 2020, Kenneth Ellerbeck completed programs of prospecting and minor rock sampling on the area as the Des-Plug property and Bertha claim group. Also in 2020, Baden Resources Inc. completed a program of rock sampling, photo interpretation (structural analysis) and a 32.8 line-kilometre ground magnetic and electromagnetic survey on the area.
