Capsule Geology

The Etta occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1000 metres on a southeast-facing slope, west of Guichon Creek and north of Winney Creek.

Volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Upper Triassic Nicola Group are exposed on the Promontory Hills with comagmatic intrusions to the north and south. The Upper Cretaceous Kingsvale Group unconformably overlies this sequence in the east. Nicola Group rocks form a large, slightly overturned anticline that plunges gently northeast.

The occurrence area is underlain in the west by Nicola Group volcanic breccia, tuff, agglomerate and flows with interbedded limestone and argillite, whereas Kingsvale Group basalt, andesite, hornblende-needle porphyry, volcanic breccia, basal sandstone and conglomerate outcrop in the east. The contact of the two sequences trends northwest.

Alteration consists of strong chloritization of the volcanic rocks with occasional small patches of malachite. Mineralization consists of fine disseminations of chalcopyrite and pyrite and occasional flecks of pyrrhotite in Nicola and Kingsvale group rocks.

Work History

In 1958, Craigmont Mines Ltd. completed a 23.9 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the approximate area of the Etta occurrence as the Hec South property. Also at this time, Noranda Mining and Exploration Inc. completed a program of geological mapping and an 85.5 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the area as the Merritt property. The following year, a 22.0 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey was completed on the property.

In 1960, Prospectors Airways completed a ground magnetic survey on the area immediately northeast of the occurrence as the Shot claims. The following year, Consolidated Standard Mines completed induced polarization and seismic surveys on the Shot claims. In 1961 and 1962, Copper Soo Mining Co. Ltd. completed programs of soil sampling, geological mapping and a 26.1 line-kilometres of ground magnetic surveys on the area immediately northeast of the occurrence as the Kim and Mike claims. In 1963, Midwest Copper completed a program of soil sampling, geological mapping and 31.9 line-kilometres of ground magnetic surveys on the area as the HAR and MID claims. In 1967, Noranda Mining and Exploration Inc. completed a soil sampling program on the area immediately south of the occurrence as the Peg claims. The following year, Noranda completed 45.0 line-kilometres of induced polarization surveys on the area as the Etta, Ok, Paquet, Peg and Retan claims.

In 1977, Craigmont Mines completed four diamond drill holes, totalling 1507.0 metres, on the area as the Orange and Blue groups of claims.

In 2012, Huldra Silver Inc. completed a 903 line-kilometre airborne geophysical survey on the area as the Thule property. This work isolated six magnetic anomalies (A through F) with the potential for magnetite skarn development, similar to the nearby Craigmont (MINFILE 092ISE035) deposit.

In 2013, Dot Resources Ltd. completed a ground electromagnetic survey on the area immediately south of the occurrence as the Promontory Hills property. The following year, a program of geological photo interpretation was completed. In 2015, a program of geological photo interpretation and 26.7 line-kilometres of ground magnetic surveys were completed on the property. Also in 2015, Nicola Mining Inc. completed a program of rock and soil sampling on the area as the Thule Copper-Iron property.

In 2016, Christopher Delorme completed an 8 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the Promontory Hills property. Also at this time, Nicola Mining Inc. completed a program of prospecting, rock sampling, geological mapping and five diamond drill holes, totalling 1063.7 metres, on the Thule Copper property.

In 2017, Nicola Mining Inc. and Clibetre Exploration Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping; a 27.0 line-kilometre induced polarization survey; a 24.5 line-kilometre airborne magnetic survey; 29 rotary drill holes, totalling 392.0 metres, and 5 diamond drill holes, totalling 2994.7 metres on the Thule Copper property.

In 2018, Nicola Mining Inc. completed a 9.0 line-kilometre ground magnetic and induced polarization survey; 70 percussion drill holes, totalling 1540.0 metres, and 16 diamond drill holes, totalling 6438.5 metres, on the area as the Craigmont property.

In 2019, Nicola Mining Inc. completed a program of soil sampling and five diamond drill holes, totalling 3649.0 metres, on the area as the New Craigmont property.
