Capsule Geology

The Rey Lake occurrence is centered at an elevation of approximately 1360 metres on a gentle northeast-facing slope, immediately south of Rey Lake.

The area is underlain by volcanic, volcaniclastic and minor sedimentary rocks belonging to the Upper Triassic Nicola Group. This belt is intruded by the Lower Jurassic Nicola and Guichon Creek granodiorite batholiths to the east and west, respectively. Locally, the Nicola Group rocks consist of augite and plagioclase porphyritic andesite flows, andesitic and dacitic pyroclastics, volcanic conglomerates and a few skarn zones derived from siliceous limestone layers. Bedding strikes north and dips steeply. Major structural elements are two asymmetric folds and a dominant northwest-trending system of fractures. A small, Upper Cretaceous, biotite-quartz-monzonite stock is emplaced subparallel to bedding. Adjacent to the stock is a breccia zone consisting of volcanic and some granitic fragments. Drillcore indicates contact metamorphism of the albite-epidote-hornfels facies (Assessment Report 5320).

Mineralization occurs in the Nicola Group rocks adjacent to the quartz monzonite stock and is comprised mainly of pyrite, with lesser chalcopyrite and molybdenite as disseminations, breccia fragments, veinlets, fracture fillings and skarn zones. Disseminated pyrite is ubiquitous in the quartz-monzonite stock, whereas chalcopyrite and molybdenite are comparatively rare. Quartz, calcite, potassium feldspar and zeolite are the dominant non-metallic minerals.

At least two areas of significant mineralization have been outlined. The Breccia zone is located along the west margin of the intrusive stock, measures approximately 200 by 500 metres in area and has been tested to a depth of at least 150 metres. Another zone, referred to as the Skarn zone, is located approximately 360 metres northwest of the Breccia zone and near the south shore of Rey Lake. The Skarn zone is comprised primarily of garnet-epidote skarn, which has been traced over a width of approximately 150 metres and a length of 360 metres with a steep dip to the east. The two zones are separated by approximately 135 metres of lower grade mineralization.

In 1974, a postulated geological reserve for the Breccia zone over an area of 150 by 450 metres and to a depth of 150 metres was reported at 28 349 500 tonnes grading 0.20 per cent copper and 0.021 per cent molybdenum (Property File 9979). Other reports at this time describe a drill-indicated reserve of approximately 26 300 000 tonnes grading 0.23 per cent copper or 19.05 million tonnes grading 0.29 per cent copper within the Block A (Breccia) zone and 47.170 million tonnes grading 0.24 per cent copper or 23.590 million tonnes grading 0.29 per cent copper within the Block B (Skarn) zone for a total of 73.480 million tonnes grading 0.23 per cent copper or 42.640 million tonnes grading 0.29 per cent copper (Property File 10721).

In 1979, the total postulated geological reserves of the Rey Lake porphyry copper zone and related skarn zone were reported at 46 862 600 tonnes grading 0.17 per cent copper and 0.018 per cent molybdenum (Assessment Report 24600).

Work History

During 1972 through 1975, a total of approximately 112 (percussion and diamond) drill holes, totalling 10 300 metres, are reported to have been completed on the Rey Lake occurrence area.

In 1972 and 1973, American Smelting and Refining Co. completed 85 percussion drill holes, totalling 5668 metres, and 17 diamond drill holes, totalling 2657 metres, on the Rey Lake property.

In 1972, a drillhole (72-6), located immediately south of Rey Lake, yielded 0.25 per cent copper and 0.01 per cent molybdenum over 187.2 metres, whereas two other drillholes (72-1 and 72-2), located southeast of Rey Lake and east of Eve Creek, yielded 0.17 and 0.24 per cent copper with 0.021 and 0.033 per cent molybdenum, respectively (Assessment Report 5658).

In 1973, a drillhole (73-7), located southeast of Rey Lake and east of Eve Creek, yielded 0.20 per cent copper and 0.017 per cent molybdenum over 111.0 metres, whereas another drillhole (73-15), located north of Rey Lake, yielded 0.12 per cent copper and 0.01 per cent molybdenum over 96.0 metres (Assessment Report 5658).

In 1974 and 1975, Craigmont Mines Ltd. completed 10 diamond drill holes, totalling 2009 metres, on the Rey claims.

In 1974, drillhole 74-18, located immediately south of Rey Lake, yielded intercepts including 0.10, 0.11 and 0.22 per cent copper over 24, 12 and 12 metres, respectively (Assessment Report 5320).

In 1975, drilling to the north of Rey Lake on the RL 14, Rey-228 and Rey-209 through -211 claims is reported to have yielded intercepts including 0.20 and 0.12 per cent copper with 0.022 and 0.018 per cent molybdenum over 107.1 and 77.7 metres, respectively, in hole RL75-22; 0.21 per cent copper and 0.023 per cent molybdenum over 80.1 metres in hole RL75-23; 0.21 per cent copper and 0.023 per cent molybdenum over 80.1 metres in hole RL75-24; 0.06 per cent copper and 0.012 per cent molybdenum over 79.2 metres in hole RL75-25; 0.14 per cent copper over the final 3.9 metres of hole RL75-26 and 0.25 per cent copper over 9 metres in hole RL75-27 (Assessment Report 5658). Other drillholes (RL75-19 and -20), located southeast of Rey Lake and east of Eve Creek, yielded 0.22 and 0.11 per cent copper with 0.018 and 0.017 per cent molybdenum over 93.0 and 42.0 metres, respectively (Assessment Report 5658).

In 1986, International Santana Resources Inc. completed three drillholes, totalling 746 metres, on the Rey Lake property. The drillholes were located south of Rey Lake and yielded intersections of 0.09 per cent copper and 0.006 per cent molybdenum over 444 metres, including 0.14 per cent copper and 0.003 per cent molybdenum over 148.5 metres, in hole 86-1; 0.14 per cent copper and 0.022 per cent molybdenum over 106.5 metres in hole 86-2 and 0.12 per cent copper with 0.021 per cent molybdenum over 87.0 metres in hole 86-3 (Assessment Report 14841).

In 1991 and 1993, Hera Resources Inc. completed induced polarization surveys on the area. Also in 1993, four diamond drill holes were completed on the Rey Lake occurrence. Drilling yielded intercepts of 0.165 per cent copper and 0.012 per cent molybdenum over 228.6 metres in hole 93-4 and 0.110 per cent copper and 0.006 per cent molybdenum over 159.0 metres, including 0.304 per cent copper and 0.015 per cent molybdenum over 40.5 metres in hole 93-2 (Assessment Report 24600).

In 1999, Discovery Consultants completed a program of rock and soil sampling on the area as they Rey 1-8 claims.

In 2004, the property was sold to Bearclaw Capital Corp., who optioned the property to Southern Rio Resources Ltd. in May 2005. Southern Rio Resources Ltd. then completed a program of geological mapping, soil and rock sampling and induced polarization surveys. Southern Rio Resources Ltd. terminated their option in 2006.

In 2008, Bearclaw Capital Corp. optioned the property to Keyser Resources who completed no work on the property and ended the option in 2011. In 2012 and 2016, Bearclaw Capital Corp. completed programs of silt and soil sampling on the Rey Lake property.
