Capsule Geology

The Yubet (North zone) occurrence is located approximately 750 metres south of the south end of Roscoe Lake.

The area lies on the eastern flank of the multistage Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic Guichon Creek Batholith astride the north-northwest–trending contact between the Skeena variety (Bethlehem phase) and Bethsaida phase granitic rocks. The eastern portion of the property is underlain by coarse-grained, grey Skeena granodiorite. To the west, the younger Bethsaida rocks are cream to pink, medium-grained quartz monzonite to granodiorite. The Bethsaida rocks have been intruded by a pink aplite dike trending 010 degrees and are exposed for 426 metres along strike. The dike appears to bifurcate at its southern end and has a width of up to 152 metres. At the contact between the Bethsaida rocks and the western side of the aplite dike, an aplitic matrix encloses coarse quartz, feldspar and biotite phenocrysts characteristic of the Bethsaida phase. Both rock types have been fractured and intensely altered to sericite.

Mineralization occurs in a north-trending zone approximately 245 metres long and 18 metres wide. The North (Discovery) and South zones are located approximately 750 and 1000 metres south of Rosco Lake, respectively, within an altered aplite dike near its western margin. Quartz stringers and small veins generally strike 025 degrees and dip 80 degrees southeast and carry chalcopyrite, bornite, malachite and chalcocite. Alteration consists chiefly of sericite and clay with patches of chlorite and carbonates. Oxidation minerals include widespread malachite, azurite, limonite and dendritic pyrolusite.

In 1966, the North (Discovery) zone is reported to have been traced by trenching and drilling over an elliptical surface area of approximately 75 metres long by 17.3 metres wide with an approximately grade of 2.25 per cent copper which diminished rapidly in grade and width between surface and a depth of approximately 30 metres (Assessment Report 2901). Drilling at this time, is reported to have yielded up to 1.40 per cent copper over 11.7 metres (Property File – 801520).

In 1971 inferred reserves were reported at 30,617 tonnes grading 2.25 per cent copper in the North zone and 11 006 tonnes grading 1.0 per cent copper in the South zone (Assessment Report 2901). More recent drilling in 1985 failed to verify the lateral and/or vertical extent of mineralization.

In 1983, a drillhole (RL83-2) on the north zone yielded 0.36 per cent copper over 33.5 metres, including 0.88 per cent copper over 12.2 metres (Assessment Report 11369).

In 1984, drilling on the South zone identified a mineralized area at least 70 metres long, 35 metres in radius and to a vertical depth of 71.2 metres yielding intercepts including 0.4 per cent copper, 0.005 per cent molybdenum and 4.2 grams per tonne silver over the last 24.4 metres of hole RL-84-8 and 0.13 per cent copper with 0.005 per cent molybdenum over 58 metres in hole RL-84-3, while a drillhole on the North zone (RL-84-5) yielded 0.16 per cent copper and 0.003 per cent molybdenum over 18.3 metres and drilling between the North and South zones yielded up to 0.08 per cent copper and 0.043 per cent molybdenum over 3.1 metres in hole RL-84-4 (Assessment Report 13824).

In 2011, drilling yielded intercepts of 1.35 per cent copper and 12.4 grams per tonne silver over 7.5 metres in hole R11-14 and 1.70 per cent copper and 30.7 grams per tonne silver over 7.5 metres in hole R11-16, located approximately 125 metres below the previous intercept, whereas a drillhole (R11-34) located approximately 600 metres south of the previous holes yielded 0.60 per cent copper and 3.5 grams per tonne silver over 7.5 metres and 0.13 per cent copper over 12.5 metres (Assessment Report 36662). The zone(s) these holes were completed on is not reported.

Work History

In 1956 and 1957, Udd-Ramsey Syndicate completed programs of geological mapping, soil sampling and a 60.4 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the area immediately west of the occurrence as the Pat claims.

In 1964, Chataway Exploration Co. Ltd. completed a 5.0 line-kilometre ground electromagnetic survey and a 16.7 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the area as the Rob, Ros, Rum and Tom claims of the Chataway property.

The area was staked as the Yubet claims in 1965. Stellako Mining Co. Ltd. and Noranda Explorations later optioned the claims and completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical sampling, geophysical surveys, trenching and diamond drilling.

In 1968, King Resources Co. completed a program of geological mapping on the area as the Ant, In, Jay, Len, Rex, Rob, Sho, T.D.M., Moon and Wiz-Dot claims of the Chataway property.

During 1970 through 1974, Highmont Mining Corp. Ltd. completed programs of soil sampling, geological mapping, trenching, a ground magnetic survey and three percussion drill holes on the area as the Pen claims.

Also during 1968 through 1972, Pathfinder Uranium and Nickel Mines Ltd. completed programs of soil sampling and induced polarization ground magnetic surveys on the area immediately west of the occurrence as the Price and Ruby claims.

In 1983, Highmont Operating Corp. completed two diamond drill holes, totalling 123.4 metres, on the Roscoe 1 claim. The following year, six percussion drill holes, totalling 484.6 metres, were completed on the claim.

During 2008 through 2012, Happy Creek Minerals Ltd. completed programs of diamond drilling and geophysical surveys on the area immediately south and east of the occurrence as the Rateria property.

During 2013 through 2019, Happy Creek Minerals Ltd. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling, a 32.3 line-kilometre induced polarization survey and re-interpretation of historical airborne geophysical data on the area immediately south and east of the occurrence as part of the Rateria-West Valley property.

In 2020, Teck Highland Valley Copper Corp. completed an induced polarization survey on the area.
