Capsule Geology

The Microgold (Cindy) occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 990 metres on a south-facing slope, northwest of Stump Lake and approximately 850 metres south-southeast of the south end of Kullagh Lake.

The area is primarily underlain by variably chloritized, epidotized and hematized andesitic flow breccias belonging to the Upper Triassic Nicola Group. Near the eastern boundary of the property the north-trending Stump Lake fault forms the contact between the Nicola Group to the west and Eocene Kamloops Group volcanics to the east. Clastic sedimentary rocks ranging from siltstone to conglomerate outcrop near the south end of Kullagh Lake. Original compositional layering defines a northeast-trending synform. The dominant structural feature is a conjugate fracture pattern. Fractures are oriented northwest to northeast and have no apparent offset. Alteration and mineralization are structurally controlled. The andesites are moderately fractured, with chlorite, kaolinite, carbonate or hematite lining the thin slips. Both magnetite and pyrite are present as disseminations (up to 5 per cent) within andesitic rocks.

Locally, diamond drill holes have intersected chalcedonic quartz veins enveloped by variable pervasive silica and clay alteration. The veins are 1 centimetre to 1 metre in width, cryptocrystalline, massive to laminated, vuggy or brecciated, and form complex networks. Purple or green fluorite, and occasionally calcite, is intimately associated with many of the veins. Pyrite occurs as fine disseminations and thin lenticular veinlets within the quartz veins and altered zones. Chalcopyrite is also evident. Coarse-grained milky white to grey quartz-carbonate veins are also present and tend to be more abundant at depth.

Work History

In 1980, Demus Petroleum completed a program of soil sampling on the area as the Fir claims. In 1983, Chevron Canada Resources Ltd. completed four diamond drill holes on the area as the CIN and DY claims. In 1985, BP Resources completed a program of soil sampling, ground geophysical (magnetic and electromagnetic) surveys and 22 diamond drill holes on the area as the CIN, DY and Microgold claims. This work centred on the main (Cindy/Microgold) zone and an anomalous zone, referred to as the Kullagh Lake zone, located near the south end of Kullagh Lake to the north of the main zone. A drillhole (C-85-13) on the Kullagh Lake zone is reported to have yielded 0.221 gram per tonne gold over 120.7 metres (Shearer, J.T. [2007-07-31]: Microgold Project).

In 1987, Asamera Minerals Inc. completed three diamond drill holes, totalling 917.7 metres, on the area. Sampling of a diamond drill hole intersecting a 2.9-metre-wide altered zone containing chalcedonic silica veining yielded a best assay of 0.7 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 16075).

During 1991 through 1996, Canquest Resource Corporation conducted programs geological mapping, soil sampling and a 4.6 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the CIN and DY claims.

In 2006 and 2007, Totem Minerals Inc. completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the area as the Microgold property. Three rock samples (M1-06, M2-06 and M6-06) of quartz-carbonate±fluorite veining from main (Cindy) zone yielded from 1.074 to 1.408 grams per tonne gold (Shearer, J.T. [2007-07-31]: Microgold Project).
