The Dodd’s (Allies South) occurrence is located on the west side of Cannell Creek at an elevation of 1270 metres, approximately 2.9 kilometres east-southeast of Sydney Lake.
Regionally, the area is underlain by basaltic volcanic rocks of the Upper Triassic Eastern Volcanic Facies of the Nicola Group and late Triassic to early Jurassic ultramafic rocks that have been overlain by undivided volcanic and basaltic volcanic rocks of the Eocene Kamloops Group and Miocene to Pleistocene Chilcotin Group. Lithologies include serpentinite, picrite, gabbro, chloritic andesite tuffs and greenstone with minor argillite, quartzite and conglomerate intruded by light- and dark-grey feldspar porphyry dikes. The dikes strike generally from 290 to 300 degrees.
Locally, narrow (less than 1 metre wide) feldspar porphyry dikes with narrow quartz-carbonate stringers hosting disseminated pyrite with minor chalcopyrite and galena are associated with a west-striking and south-dipping shear zone. The veins trend approximately 30 degrees and dip to the northwest. The mineralized zone, as defined by drilling, is cut off to the east by a north-west–trending fault, paralleling the Cannell Creek valley.
In 1976, select grab samples taken from trench cuts assayed up to 0.68 per cent copper, 0.13 per cent lead, 1.9 grams per tonne gold and 19.8 grams per tonne silver (Property File - L. Sookochoff [1976-01-13]: Geological Report on the Cannel Creek Property).
In 1984, a sample (3+90E-5+10S) of mineralized dike material assayed 0.64 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 12412). Later that year a chip sample (sample 85877) yielded 1.03 grams per tonne gold over 0.7 metre (Assessment Report 13445).
In 1985, a grab sample assayed 1.0 gram per tonne gold and 3.4 grams per tonne silver (Property File - L. Riccio [1985-09-01]: Progress Report on Exploration Carried Out On The Allies Property During 1985).
In 1986, a diamond drill hole (86-A-1) intercepted a weakly mineralized andesite feldspar porphyry yielding 0.35 gram per tonne gold over 21.0 metres, including 1.32 grams per tonne gold over 1.0 metre (Assessment Report 15807).
In 2010, a diamond drill hole (TA10-003) yielded up to 0.762 gram per tonne gold and 0.588 per cent mercury over 6.35 metres, including 1.25 grams per tone gold and 1.38 per cent mercury over 1.52 metres (Assessment Report 32291).
The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Allies (MINFILE 092INE044) occurrence since the 1920s. A full description of early, prior to 1983, exploration programs can be found there.
In 1983, airborne magnetic and VLF-EM surveys were carried out by Stryder Explorations Ltd. over the Dog claim group. In 1984, title to the property was awarded to Laramide Resources Ltd. in a dispute over previous assessment work and, in that year, prospecting, grid layout, road construction, trenching, geological mapping and geochemical surveys were completed. The property was optioned to Relay Creek Resources in 1985 and further exploration was performed, including an induced polarization survey and backhoe trenching. In 1986, Relay Creek carried out a diamond drilling program consisting of five NQ drillholes, totalling 619 metres. In late 1987, three diamond drill holes, totalling 401.1 metres, were completed. During 1985 through 1989, ground magnetic and VLF-EM surveys, geological mapping and soil sampling were carried out over the Dog claims, adjacent to the Allies showing, by Trans-Arctic Explorations Ltd.
No further exploration work was reported on the original Allies showing from 1990 until 1997, when the property came open and R.B. Simpson acquired it by staking the Treadwell claim in October 1997. In 1998, prospecting was carried out by R.S. Simpson. During 2004 through 2007, programs of soil sampling and a total of 17.8 line-kilometres of induced polarization and resistivity surveys were completed. In 2010, Treadwell Resources completed eight diamond drill holes, totalling 1129.9 metres, on the Treadwell/Allies property.
