The Allies occurrence is located near the southwest side of Cannell Creek at an elevation of 1330 metres, approximately 2.2 kilometres east of Sydney Lake.

Regionally, the area is underlain by basaltic volcanic rocks of the Upper Triassic Eastern Volcanic Facies of the Nicola Group and late Triassic to early Jurassic ultramafic rocks that have been overlain by undivided volcanic and basaltic volcanic rocks of the Eocene Kamloops Group and Miocene to Pleistocene Chilcotin Group. Lithologies include serpentinite, picrite, gabbro, chloritic andesite tuffs and greenstone with minor argillite, quartzite and conglomerate intruded by light- and dark-grey feldspar porphyry dikes.

Locally, large float boulders, up to 3 by 2 by 1 metre in size, of feldspar porphyry dikes carrying small quartz veins and stringers mineralized with pyrite, chalcopyrite, bornite, galena and occasional free gold have been identified.

In 1933, a sample of oxidized quartz within porphyry from another adit assayed 6.8 grams per tonne gold and 13.7 grams per tonne silver (Minister of Mines Annual Report 1933). Another sample from 30 metres of porphyry intersected in an adit assayed 0.97 gram per tonne gold.

In 1973, grab samples from the main workings are reported to have yielded up to 1.30 per cent copper, 50.9 grams per tonne silver and 7.2 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 4546).

In 1984, a grab sample from the No.1 shaft dump assayed 14.1 grams per tonne gold and 19.1 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 12412). Later the same year, trenching near the No.1 shaft identified a possible bedrock or sub-crop mineralized porphyry dike yielding up to 9.3 grams per tonne gold and 13.8 grams per tonne silver (Sample DAL 022; Assessment Report 13445).

In 1985, sampling of a large piece of sub-crop or possible bedrock from the No.1 shaft trench yielded up to 5.9 grams per tonne gold and 17.8 grams per tonne silver (Property File - L. Riccio [1985-09-01]: Progress Report on Exploration Carried Out On The Allies Property During 1985).

In 2010, diamond drilling in the area of the no.1 shaft intercepted picrite and a fault zone hosting a silicified and pyritized feldspar porphyry clast-supported breccia. Assays of the porphyry returned only very low values for gold and indicator elements, whereas samples of the picrite yielded values greater than 0.04 per cent chromium and 0.1 per cent nickel (Assessment Report 32291).

During the 1920s, prospectors were panning for gold up the tributaries of Tranquille River and discovered what appeared to be an outcrop of gold-bearing porphyry rock at the 1280 metre elevation of Cannell Creek. The Allies group of eight claims were subsequently staked and owned by O.S. Batchelor of Kamloops and the property was extensively prospected by Vancouver interests under the direction of D.B. Sterritt of Kamloops. The porphyry blocks contained considerable small quartz veins and stringers and two samples assayed 48.6 and 45.2 grams per tonne gold, respectively. The extremely large blocks at the original discovery proved to be float; an 11.8-metre shaft (No. 1) with an 11.2-metre drift underneath the blocks intersected boulder clay. In 1933 and 1934, an extensive underground exploration program was carried out to find and delineate the source of the gold-bearing porphyry float. Three shafts were sunk with two drifts; 33 open-cuts/pits were dug and four adits, totalling at least 199 metres, with 15 metres of crosscuts were completed west and southwest of the original discovery. The source of the float blocks at the No. 1 shaft was not found.

In 1967, a portion of the Allies group was staked as the Bob claims and held by South Oak Mines Ltd. Additional claims were staked adjacent to and surrounding the Bob claims and were known as the Dog group. In 1968, six trenches and six pits were dug and blasted in overburden and bedrock by F. Swiatkevich on the Bob claims. In 1972, South Oak Mines Ltd. completed line cutting on the Dog claims. In 1973, Bon-Val Mines Ltd. completed a program of ground magnetometer and VLF-EM surveys, limited soil sampling and geological mapping on the Dog claims. Bon-Val Mines was reorganized as Yamoto Industries Ltd. In 1976, a soil sampling survey was conducted by Yamoto Industries Ltd. on the Cannell claim, which is a re-staking of the Dog claims. In 1978, Yamoto Industries Ltd. conducted a total of 162 metres of diamond drilling in three holes.

In 1983, airborne magnetic and VLF-EM surveys were carried out by Stryder Explorations Ltd. over the Dog claim group. In 1984, title to the property was awarded to Laramide Resources Ltd. in a dispute over previous assessment work and, in that year, prospecting, grid layout, road construction, trenching, geological mapping and geochemical surveys were completed. The property was optioned to Relay Creek Resources in 1985 and further exploration was performed, including an induced polarization survey and backhoe trenching. In 1986, Relay Creek carried out a diamond drilling program consisting of five NQ drillholes, totalling 619 metres. In late 1987, three diamond drill holes, totalling 401.1 metres, were completed. During 1985 through 1989, ground magnetic and VLF-EM surveys, geological mapping and soil sampling were carried out over the Dog claims, adjacent to the Allies showing, by Trans-Arctic Explorations Ltd.

No further exploration work was reported on the original Allies showing from 1990 until 1997, when the property came open and R.B. Simpson acquired it by staking the Treadwell claim in October 1997. In 1998, prospecting was carried out by R.S. Simpson. During 2004 through 2007, programs of soil sampling and a total of 17.8 line-kilometres of induced polarization and resistivity surveys were completed. In 2010, Treadwell Resources completed eight diamond drill holes, totalling 1129.9 metres, on the Treadwell/Allies property.
