Capsule Geology

The Dab occurrence is located on the east side of a small pond, south of Axe Creek and approximately 1.2 kilometres southeast of the creek’s junction with Guichon Creek.

The area lies close to the northwest-trending contact between Upper Triassic Nicola Group volcanics to the east and intrusive rocks of the late Triassic to Middle Jurassic Guichon Creek Batholith to the west. In this area, Guichon Creek rocks appear to be quartz diorite of the Hybrid phase.

Locally, very low-grade copper mineralization (inferred to be disseminated chalcopyrite) occurs in mafic intrusive rocks (Nicola Group?). The mineralization was found by drilling but is not reported in assessment reports (W.J. McMillan, 1970).

Work History

In 1963, Valley Copper Mines completed a program of rock, silt and soil sampling, geological mapping, a ground magnetic survey, road building and bulldozer trenching on the area as the WDR claims. During 1967 through 1969, Alwin Mining Company completed soil sampling and an aeromagnetic survey on the area as the Dab, HJ and RM claims. In 1968, an airborne magnetometer survey (202 kilometres) was flown on behalf of North Pacific Mines Ltd. and Comet-Krain Mines Ltd. In 1969, Noranda Exploration Company Limited conducted a soil geochemical survey and induced polarization surveys over the Mike, Bill, Tom and JB claims. In 1978, Bethlehem Copper completed a regional program of rock and soil sampling, geological mapping and a 101.0 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the area as the TL and GC claims.

In 2007, L. Sookochoff completed a photogeological (lineament) study. In 2008, SNL Enterprises collected soil samples in the area. During 2008 through 2010, Logan Copper explored the area as the Dansey project. During 2014 through 2016, photo-geological structural analysis programs were completed on the area as the Bertha and Toni claim groups

In 2017, Guy and Chris Delorme completed a 16-sample soil geochemical program. It was suggested that none of the areas sampled warranted additional exploration.

In 2018, Guy and Chris Delorme collected and assayed 14 rock samples from the Highland Valley property. Sample number HVP-2018-07 of granodiorite with chalcopyrite and malachite mineralization taken 200 metres northwest of the DAB occurrence returned 1.22 per cent copper (Assessment Report 38001).
