The Cat occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1500 metres on the eastern slopes of Stoyoma Mountain.
Regionally, the area is underlain by Permian to Lower Jurassic dioritic intrusive rocks, Upper Jurassic tonalite intrusive rocks and Middle Cretaceous granitic intrusive rocks.
Locally, as defined by diamond drilling, a granodiorite gneiss hosts minor disseminated pyrite and malachite-azurite staining associated with more felsic sections.
