Capsule Geology

The Fort showing, a part of the Gillis property, is located on a ridge separating Maka Creek and the Coldwater River, approximately 29 kilometres southwest of Merritt.

The area is underlain by chlorite schist, sericite schist and minor amounts of silty limestone of the upper Triassic Nicola Group.

Locally, limestone hosts milky white quartz gangue and mineralized quartz veins.

Mineralization is concentrated in quartz veins with varying appearances, thicknesses and orientations. Different styles of veins include milky white quartz, fractured more translucent bull quartz containing sericite, and quartz- iron carbonate veins. There is a spectrum between these styles of veins. Sulphide minerals observed in the veins consist of pyrite and lesser amounts of galena, chalcopyrite, sphalerite and a soft silvery mineral that may possibly be boulangerite.

A zone of pyrite-galena bearing quartz vein float, referred to as the South Side occurrence, is located in the next creek valley to the south of the Fort zone in an area of poor exposure.

In 2008, a grab sample (G001310) from the Fort showing returned 19.650 grams per tonne gold and 201.0 grams per tonne silver, while float samples taken from the South Side zone yielded up to 2.940 grams per tonne gold, 112.0 grams per tonne silver and 0.147 per cent lead (Assessment Report 30585).

In 2011, two mineralized zones, separated by 55 metres, were identified by trenching on a ridge to the south of the occurrence. Trench 7555 identified a 5.5-metre wide, north-south–trending zone of sheared and sericite-altered fragmental volcanic hosting two quartz veins, 1.5 and 1.3 metres wide and yielding 0.34 and 0.80 gram per tonne gold, respectively, whereas trench 7550 yielded 0.37 gram per tonne gold over 26 metres, including 0.51 gram per tonne gold over 8 metres (Assessment Report 33236). Also at this time, a composite grab sample (M408058) over 2.5 metres of quartz veining from the Fort occurrence yielded 1.35 grams per tonne gold and 6.0 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 33236).

Work History

Previous work on the Gillis property is limited to reconnaissance stream sediment and soil geochemical surveys carried out by Almaden Minerals Ltd. investigating regional RGS stream sediment geochemical gold anomalies in 2005 and 2006. Rimfire Minerals Corporation acquired the Gillis property through an option agreement executed in the fall of 2008 from vendors Ed Balon and Wojtek Jakubowski. In 2008, Rimfire carried out a program of mapping, prospecting, and geochemical sampling.

In 2011, Rimfire Minerals Corp. completed a program of geological mapping, trenching and rock sampling on the Gillis property. This work was centred on a ridge approximately 600 metres south of the Fort occurrence.
