The Elk Moly occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1680 metres on an east-southeast–facing slope, west of Siwash Lake.
The area is situated along the northwest margin of the Middle Jurassic Osprey Lake Batholith, near its contact with basaltic volcanic rocks of the Upper Triassic Nicola Group.
Locally, a lightly altered granite hosts 5 to 10 per cent molybdenite.
In 1987, a rock sample (13R) assayed 2.646 per cent molybdenum, whereas another sample (12R) oxidized granite hosting quartz veinlets, taken short distance south of the previous sample, yielded 0.890 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 16644).
Work History
The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Elk (MINFILE 092HNE096) occurrence and a complete exploration history of the area can be found there.
