Capsule Geology

The SAV showing, a part of the Gillis property, is located on a ridge separating Maka Creek and the Coldwater River, approximately 29 kilometres southwest of Merritt.

The area is underlain by chlorite schist, sericite schist and minor amounts of silty limestone of the Upper Triassic Nicola Group.

Locally, a 20 centimetre wide, quartz vein is hosed in chlorite schists. The vein has 1 to 2 per cent galena and trace amounts of chalcopyrite and pyrite. This vein also contained trace amounts of honey- coloured sphalerite.

In 2008, a grab sampling of the vein returned up to 3.910 grams per tonne gold, 213.0 grams per tonne silver, 0.458 per cent lead and 0.109 per cent zinc (Sample G001807; Assessment Report 30585).

Work History

Previous work on the Gillis property is limited to reconnaissance stream sediment and soil geochemical surveys carried out by Almaden Minerals Ltd. investigating regional RGS stream sediment geochemical gold anomalies in 2005 and 2006. Rimfire Minerals Corporation acquired the Gillis property through an option agreement executed in the fall of 2008 from vendors Ed Balon and Wojtek Jakubowski. In 2008, Rimfire carried out a program of mapping, prospecting, and geochemical sampling.

In 2011, Rimfire Minerals Corp. completed a program of geological mapping, trenching and rock sampling on the Gillis property. This work was centered on a ridge approximately 1.5 kilometres to the west of the Sav occurrence and results are reported in the Fort (MINFILE 092HNE080) occurrence.
