The Thor 5 occurrence is located approximately 2.3 kilometres southwest of the south end of Bluey Lake and 3.5 kilometres northwest of the north end of Missezula Lake.

The region north of Missezula Lake is underlain by the Eastern volcanic facies of the Upper Triassic Nicola Group, comprising mafic to intermediate augite and hornblende porphyritic pyroclastics and flows, and associated alkaline intrusions. The intrusions vary in composition from diorite to monzonite and are thought to be comagmatic with the Nicola Group, ranging in age from Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic.

The occurrence is hosted in a sequence of green volcanic breccia and lahar deposits of the Upper Triassic Nicola Group (Central Belt, Bulletin 69). Mineralization consists of malachite and rare chalcopyrite and chalcocite, occurring sporadically in an area trending north-northeast for 540 metres and approximately 140 metres wide.

An outcrop of breccia with native copper occurs approximately 500 metres west of the south end of the previous zone of copper mineralization.

In 1978, a rock sample (A-30) taken near the centre of the area of mineralization yielded 0.286 per cent copper, whereas a second sample (A-413), located approximately 220 metres south-southwest of sample A-30, assayed 0.100 per cent copper (Assessment Report 7165).

In 1985, a sample (T2006R) with chalcocite and malachite from the main zone of mineralization assayed 0.242 per cent copper, 1.5 grams per tonne silver and 0.155 gram per tonne gold, whereas a sample (2095) with malachite and epidote, taken from a trench located approximately 450 metres east of the previous sample, yielded 0.196 per cent copper and 2.0 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 14141, Figure 8a).

In 1987, a rock sample (5801), taken several hundred metres north-northwest of the occurrence, yielded 0.655 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 17118).

In 2013, seven representative trench and outcrop grab samples were taken and assayed from 0.0227 to 0.272 per cent copper, less than 0.2 to 2.5 grams per tonne silver and up to 0.192 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 34718; Press Release, West Cirque Resources Ltd., June 11, 2013).

Work History

In 1969, F.R. Burton completed a 32.0 line-kilometre ground magnetic and electromagnetic survey on the area as the Amalg 1-36 claims.

In 1972, Noranda Mining and Exploration Inc. completed a program of geological mapping, trenching and ground and airborne geophysical surveys on the area as the Bim, Boss, J, Lo, Gail and Tight claim groups of the Adonis property. In 1978 and 1979, Cominco Ltd. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and approximately 9.4 line-kilometres ground magnetic and induced polarization surveys on the area as the Thalia claims.

In 1985, Vanco Explorations Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the area as the Bloo, Climax and Thor claims. In 1987, a further program of rock and soil sampling was completed on the claims.

In 1990, Rayrock Yellowknife Resources Inc. and MineQuest Exploration Associated Ltd. completed a 56.2 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the area as the Zig 1-4 and Zul 1-3 claims. The following year, nine rotary drill holes, totalling 650.7 metres, were completed on the claims.

In 2003, Gary Brown completed a 27.5 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the area as the Boss 1-2 claims. In 2004, Copper Hill Exploration Corp. completed a program of geological mapping and photo-geological interpretation on the area as the Ketchan property. In 2005, Copper Belt Resources Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and 13.0 line-kilometres of ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveys on the area as the Central Nicola property.

In 2011, Moag Copper Gold Resources Inc. completed a program of soil sampling on the area as part of the Ketchan property. In 2013, West Cirque Resources Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and rock sampling on the area as the Aspen Grove property.
