Capsule Geology

The Dill occurrence is located approximately 1 kilometre east of Dillard Lake and 6.5 kilometres east-southeast of the south end of Missezula Lake.

The area east of Dillard Lake is primarily underlain by andesitic to basaltic flows and pyroclastics of the Upper Triassic Nicola Group (Eastern belt, Bulletin 69). These volcanics are intruded by small bodies and dikes of diorite and syenite that may be comagmatic with the volcanics.

Erratic gold and copper mineralization occurs in two zones. In the northernmost zone, gold is associated with pyrite and chalcopyrite in quartz veins and masses. The veins occur primarily in moderately to strongly fractured andesite with argillic, propylitic (chlorite and epidote) and minor silicic alteration. Small masses of granodiorite and diorite with weak, but widespread potassic alteration, are also veined with quartz. The veins generally dip steeply, strike west and vary from less than a centimetre to 70 centimetres wide. Sporadic gold-bearing veins are exposed in an area trending northwest for 500 metres and varying up to 200 metres wide. Weaker gold values occur 490 metres southeast, in an area trending west for 200 metres.

In 1988, two rock samples (D-R22 and D-R25) from the main zone yielded 22.58 and 18.42 grams per tonne gold with 13.7 and 19.7 grams per tonne silver, respectively, whereas two other rock samples (D-R17 and D-R19), taken approximately 700 metres to the southeast of the main zone, assayed 0.76 and 1.91 grams per tonne gold with 2.0 and 12.5 grams per tonne silver, respectively (Assessment Report 18410, page 12).

In 1989, chip samples (nos. 28, 29 and 30) taken across altered andesite cut by a 1-centimetre-thick, steeply dipping quartz vein striking 040 degrees from trench 7 on the north (main) zone yielded an average of 85.16 grams per tonne gold and 0.16 per cent copper over 4.5 metres, including a 1.5-metre section (no. 28) grading 156.5 grams per tonne gold and 0.23 per cent copper that re-assayed 254.40 grams per tonne gold, whereas a grab (9DC-05R) sample from this vein assayed 215 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 19593). Also at this time, a grab sample (90C-13R) from trench 10, located approximately 200 metres east of the previous trench, yielded 17.23 grams per tonne gold, whereas a panel sample of a 35- to 70-centimetre-wide, west-striking quartz vein exposed in trench 6, located approximately 230 metres north-northeast of trench 7, assayed 0.850 gram per tonne gold and 0.36 per cent copper over 0.8 by 0.4 by 0.3 metre (Assessment Report 19593). Sampling of the south zone yielded up to 1.88 grams per tonne gold and 0.182 per cent copper over 1.5 metres of moderately fractured, propylitic-altered andesite exposed in trench 1 (Assessment Report 19593).

In 2011, two rock samples (DRS42 and 2591125) of narrow quartz veins from the main zone yielded 3.289 and 28.900 grams per tonne gold with 1.9 and 11.4 grams per tonne silver, respectively (Assessment Report 32558). Also at this time, a rock sample (DRS-68) of silicified rock hosting chalcopyrite, pyrite, malachite and epidote, taken from a roadcut located approximately 300 metres north of the main zone, assayed 0.277 per cent copper and 0.089 gram per tonne gold, whereas a sample (2591126) of porphyritic andesite with chalcopyrite and malachite, taken approximately 500 metres southeast of the main zone yielded 0.125 per cent copper and 0.219 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 32558). Another sample (DRS-7) of massive sulphides with oxidized quartz, located approximately 900 metres southeast of the main zone, yielded 0.176 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 32558).

In 2014, diamond drilling yielded intercepts including 0.396 gram per tonne gold over 20.0 metres (7.0 to 27.0 metres down hole) in hole DI14-16 and 1.223 grams per tonne gold over 12.0 metres (12.0 to 24.0 metres down hole) in hole DI14-16B (Assessment Report 35301). Also at this time, sampling of trench T14-06 yielded up to 0.52 gram per tonne gold over 12.0 metres and 0.13 per cent copper over 27 metres (Assessment Report 35301).

In 2018, a rock sample (D2) of quartz with pyrite and hematite from an outcrop in the area of the main zone assayed 0.134 per cent copper and 1.27 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 37988).

Work History

During 1980 through 1983, Cominco Ltd. completed programs of geological mapping, soil sampling and ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveys on the area as the Toba claims.

During 1987 through 1991, Fairfield Minerals Ltd. completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and ground geophysical surveys on the area as the Dill property.

On August 31, 2011, Fjordland Exploration Inc. signed an option agreement with private vendors to purchase 100 per cent interest in the 2200-hectare Dillard claims. Later that year, Fjordland completed a program of prospecting and rock sampling.

In 2012, Fjordland Exploration Inc. completed retrieval, restoration and reboxing of much of the 2020 metres of core drilled on the Dill property by Placer Dome Inc. in 1991. The core, along with the core logs and assays, provided valuable information in planning for additional drilling. A susceptibility survey was then completed over the reconditioned core, which totalled approximately 40 per cent of the 1991 drill program. Fjordland also completed 23.3 line-kilometres of ground magnetic surveying and 11 line-kilometres of induced polarization surveying over selected areas on the Dillard property. The 2012 geophysical surveys led to the identification of coincident copper-gold soil and induced polarization anomalies in two areas measuring approximately 2000 by 800 metres and 1500 by 1000 metres (V STOCKWATCH, October 18, 2012).

In 2013, Fjordland Exploration Inc. completed a 293.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic and radiometric survey, a 45.3 line-kilometre ground magnetic and induced polarization survey and seven diamond drill holes, totalling 2636.1 metres, on the Dillard property.

In 2014, Fjordland Exploration Inc. completed a program of geological mapping, soil sampling, trenching and 14 diamond drill holes, totalling 5305.0 metres, on the Dillard property. In 2015, a program of prospecting, geological mapping and rock sampling was completed on the property.

In 2018, Rene Bernard completed a minor program of rock sampling on the area as the Man-Prime property.
