The Cultus North occurrence is located in the south western head waters of Hatchery Creek, approximately 2.5 kilometres west of the north end of Cultus Lake.
The area is underlain by the Permian Vedder Mountain metamorphic complex, which is described as a sequence of lower amphibolite- to kyanite- grade metamorphic rocks. Locally, they consist of a mixture of grey to green metamorphosed basalts, diorites and andesitic rocks. To the south, conglomerate and coarse clastic sedimentary rocks of the Upper Jurassic Kent Formation outcrop, while to the north undivided sedimentary rocks of the Devonian to Permian Chilliwack Group are exposed.
Locally, greenstones (serpentinite) host quartz veins with sericite alteration and sulphide mineralization, consisting of pyrite, pyrrhotite and lesser chalcopyrite. Pentlandite and chromite are also reported to occur in the silicified greenstones.
In 1988, samples were taken from three separate logging road exposures, over an approximate area of 300 by 200 metres, samples from the level no. 1 road (samples CN Min 1, 2, 3, 4, 8 and 9) yielded: 0.164 to 0.255 per cent nickel with up to 21.5 grams per tonne silver; eleven samples from the level no.2 road yielded from 0.123 to 0.140 per cent nickel; and three samples (CHE-NO 05-88 to CHE-NO07-88) from the level no. 3 road yielded from 0.154 to 0.279 per cent chromium with up to 0.076 per cent nickel (Assessment Report 18276).
In 1990, a small rock quarry, located approximately 250 hundred metres to the north west, was sampled and yielded up to 2.23 grams per tonne gold, 5.27 grams per tonne silver and 1.92 per cent copper from sample 4.89-R, while other samples yielded up to 0.465 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 21044).
During 1981 through 1988, the area was prospected and sampled as the Marg-Sum 1-3 claims. During 1988 through 1990, the area was prospected as the Mwito 1-2 and Cultus North claims. In 2004, the area was prospected as the KPH claims.
