Coughlan and Sons Co., located in east New Westminster near Queens Park, produced brick and drain tile from local deposits of surficial glacial clay.

The deposits of clay consist of grey, rather sandy clay which is lensy in form. The clay grades laterally into sand in many places. The clay has a relatively short firing range temperature and fires red to reddish-brown in colour making it suitable for structural products.
