The Tasha occurrence is located near the western shore of the Alberni Canal, approximately 3.5 kilometres south-southwest of the Somass River mouth.
The area is underlain by andesite of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen Formation (Vancouver Group).
The Tasha zone was identified in the early 2000s during road building operations which exposed a series of sheeted, 0.5 to 2-metre wide zones hosting quartz-calcite-chlorite+/-epidote stringers. The host rock consists of pillowed mafic volcanics of the Triassic Karmutsen Formation with minor quartz-feldspar porphyry intrusive dikes of unknown orientation. The veins are oriented at 150 to 205 degrees and dip 60 to 80 degrees east. Wall rock around the veins also contain clots of chalcopyrite and epidote, while individual veins contain up to 75 per cent sulphides including chalcopyrite, bornite, pyrite, possible sphalerite, tetrahedrite, covellite and native copper. The zone is approximately 50 metres wide and is open in all directions. This larger zone may represent volcanic redbed copper style of mineralization.
The three analyzed outcrop grab samples taken from the Tasha zone in 2003 yielded up to 14.9 per cent copper, 19.6 grams per tonne silver, and 0.34 gram per tonne gold over widths of 5 to 50 centimetres (Press Release, SYMC Resources Ltd., Oct 27, 2003).
In 2005, a drill hole (DT-05-03) intersected 27.9 metres yielded an average of 0.139 per cent copper (Houle, J. (2007-01-26): Technical Report for the 2006 Diamond Drilling Program and the 2006 Prospecting Program on the Macktush Property).
In 2007, an indicated mineral inventory estimate for the Tasha zone was reported at 20,423 tonnes grading 0.01 gram per tonne gold, 0.6 gram per tonne silver and 0.16 per cent copper (Assessment Report 28989).
Work History
In 1962, Cruikshank Explorations completed an induced polarization survey on the area as the Cruikshank and Alberni claims. In 1986, United Chieftan Resources completed a prospecting program. In 1988, Napier Exploration completed a program of geochemical sampling and geological mapping on the area.
In 1989, Brockton Resources completed a program of geological mapping, geochemical rock and soil sampling and ground geophysical surveys.
SYMC Resources Limited explored the area during 1993 through 2006 as part of their Dauntless (Macktush) property. On its Dauntless project SYMC completed trenching and 1062 metres of drilling in 15 holes on three copper-silver-gold targets - the Dauntless North and Herb Jr. veins (MINFILE 092F 168) and the Tasha zone.
In 2009 through 2011, G4G Resources completed programs of geological mapping and rock and soil sampling on the area as the Macktush Copper property. During 2012 through 2014, Nahminto Resources completed exploration programs including limited prospecting, rock sampling, geological mapping and a satellite remote sensing survey and analysis on the Macktush group.
