The Devil's Den occurrence is located 650 metres south of Devils Den Lake and 4.5 kilometres west of Port Alberni.
The area is underlain by basaltic volcanic rocks of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen Formation, Vancouver Group.
Locally, at the Devil's Den showings excavations consist of two open-cuts and a 1.5 metre deep shaft or pit. The shaft exposes grey silicified andesite with 30 per cent quartz-calcite veinlets. In the eastern open cut a 30 centimetre wide quartz vein occurs containing 2 to 3 per cent pyrite. The southernmost open cut reveals a 20 centimetre wide quartz vein, striking 110 degrees, with 10 per cent pyrite and 1 to 2 per cent chalcopyrite. The showing is thought to be associated with a major north trending fault.
In 1962, Cruikshank Explorations completed an induced polarization survey on the area as the Cruikshank and Alberni claims. In 1983, International Phasor Telecom completed a ground electromagnetic survey on the Stamp claims. In 1986, United Chieftan Resources completed a prospecting program. In 1988, Napier Exploration completed a program of geochemical sampling and geological mapping on the area. A sample of the vein from the southernmost open cut assayed 4.15 grams per tonne gold and 0.26 per cent copper (Assessment Report 17557).
In 1989, Brockton Resources completed a program of geological mapping, geochemical rock and soil sampling and ground geophysical surveys. SYMC Resources Limited explored the area in 1998 to 2006 as part of their Dauntless (Macktush) property. In 2009 through 2011, G4G Resources completed programs of geological mapping and rock and soil sampling on the area as the Macktush Copper property. During 2012 through 2014, Nahminto Resources Ltd. completed exploration programs including limited prospecting, rock sampling, geological mapping and a satellite remote sensing survey and analysis on the Macktush group. A similar prospecting, geological mapping and rock sampling program was conducted on areas of the Macktush property for World Organics Inc. in 2015.
