The Three Jays (L.518-527) occurrence is located on a ridge over-looking the Alberni Canal, approximately 2.5 kilometres south of the Nahmint River mouth and 23 kilometres south-southwest of Port Alberni.

The stratigraphy of the area primarily comprises Upper Triassic Vancouver Group rocks consisting of Quatsino Formation limestone, and underlying Karmutsen Formation basalts and interbedded tuffs. Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group tuffs, agglomerates and andesite flows are also present. These rocks are folded and faulted and intruded by a granodiorite dyke, 60 metres in width, and by many diorite and quartz feldspar porphyry bodies. These intrusives are related to the Early to Middle Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite, large bodies of which occur to the north.

The occurrences consist of skarn deposits hosted in Quatsino limestone, in the overlying Bonanza rocks and in the tuff horizons at the top of the Karmutsen. Some larger disseminated deposits also occur in the intrusives or volcanics. These deposits typically consist of high-grade chalcopyrite occurring with magnetite, pyrite, bornite, epidote, garnet and actinolite. The chalcopyrite is fine grained, sometimes bedded and fills cavities or coats fossils or skarn minerals.

At the JJJ occurrence there are seven major ore shoots in three parallel zones that are separated by about 30 metres. The deposits show ore for a length of 1500 metres, with individual ore shoots from 2 to 8.5 metres in width and from 20 to 45 metres in length. The trend of the ore is east and the shoots all dip about 80 degrees south, pitching to the west. The upper mineralized zone, where most of the previous workings occur, is reported to consist of a massive quartz-pyroxene-atonalistic tactite with magnetite, pyrite and chalcopyrite occurring as massive clots, disseminations and stringers. In 2008, sampling of sub-crop from a former shaft yielded values up to 7.2 per cent copper and 17 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 30799). In 2009, sampling of the #1 Tunnel Portal yielded values of 3.1 per cent copper and 36 grams per tonne silver from a 1 metre thick mineralized skarn zone (Assessment Report 31248).

The lower adit (Beach zone) is located near shore, at approximately 100 metres elevation, overlooking the Alberni Canal on the former Pacific (L. 520) crown grant. It is reported to be driven into a silicified, chloritezed and epidotized andesite hosting irregular shatter zones containing pyrite and chalcopyrite. In 1980, three samples taken from the lower adit assayed greater than 0.4 per cent copper (Assessment Report 8286). In 2009, a select outcrop sample (200906) from a 0.2 metre thick skarn lens assayed 2.41 per cent copper and 11.2 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 31708).

The Viking adit, located at 529 metre elevation and approximately 250 metres south of the JJJ shafts, exposes a 0.3 metre thick skarn zone striking 315 degrees and dipping 80 degrees. The zone contains epidote, chlorite, actinolite, chalcopyrite, pyrite and magnetite and is hosted by basalt and/or andesite. In 2009, a sample (200904) from a trench adjacent to the adit yielded 10.5 per cent copper and 46.5 grams per tonne silver. Another sample (200905), taken from 75 metres down slope, of similar material assayed 15.0 per cent copper and 58.9 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 31248).

The mine was in operation from about 1898 to 1902 and produced 148,889 kilograms of copper, 1,929 grams of gold and 75,207 grams of silver from a total of 1,981 tonnes mined (Mineral Policy data). The workings consist of surface pits, several short tunnels, one short shaft and 3 adits at 530, 470 and 380 metres elevation, driven for lengths of 300, 200 and 600 metres respectively.

In 1980, Island Mining and Exploration Company completed a program of rock and soil sampling on the IME group of claims.

In 2007 through 2013, Nahminto Resources completed a program of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical sampling, a ground magnetometer survey and airborne geophysical surveys on the area as the TJM claims, part of the Nahmint property. In 2013, Equitas Resources Corp. conducted geological mapping, rock, soil and stream moss mat sampling at the Three Jays North area of the Nahmint property.

In 2020 a structural analysis via photo interpretation and minor prospecting and stream and rock sampling were conducted on the Nahmint property for tenure holder B. McKinney.
