The Hornet zone is located near the border of the Black Hornet (L.828) and War Eagle (L.827) crown grants on Sinn Fein Creek, at an elevation of approximately 270.

The area is underlain by basalt of the Eocene Metchosin Volcanics and gabbroic and diabase intrusions related to the coeval Sooke Gabbro. The basalt and gabbroic rocks are sheared, brecciated and altered. Granitic intrusions have formed large breccia zones with hornblendite and pegmatites intruding and filling the brecciated older rock.

Locally, at the Hornet zone, a 4.5 metre tunnel is reported to host spotty mineralization of quartz-feldspar stringers with chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and pyrite hosted by hornblendite, gabbro and basalt. Float samples of mineralized gabbro from the forks of Sinn Fein Creek, to the west, assayed 2.4 per cent copper and 0.25 per cent nickel (Property File - G.E. Winkler (1961-05-01): Report - Jordan River Camp, V.I.).

The Vulcan zone is located a short distance below the Hornet zone at an elevation of approximately 240 metres. The zone consists of malachite and limonite hosted by basalts.

The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Sunro (MINFILE 092C 073) past-producing mine since 1915.
