The Zizac occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 490 metres, west of the junction of the Chemainus River and Zizac Creek and approximately 7.7 kilometres north-northeast of the community of Lake Cowichan.
Regionally, the area is underlain by chert, siliceous argillite and siliciclastic rocks of the Mississippian to Pennsylvanian Fourth Lake Formation (Buttle Lake Group), calc-alkaline volcanic rocks of the Middle to Upper Devonian Nitinat Formation (Sicker Group) and volcaniclastic rocks of the Middle to Upper Devonian Mclaughlin Ridge Formation (Sicker Group). These rocks are intruded by granodiorite and quartz diorite of the Early to Middle Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite and gabbroic to dioritic rocks of the Triassic Mount Hall Gabbro. Undivided sedimentary rocks of the Upper Cretaceous Nanaimo Group locally overlay the previous units.
Locally, a highly weathered quartz vein (box-work limonite), within quartz diorite and near a contact with Myra Formation rocks, hosts molybdenite and anomalous gold values.
In 1984, an undescribed rock sample (R-64372) from an area underlain by breccia and pebble conglomerate and granodiorite exposed along Mowat Creek, located approximately 1 kilometre to the northwest of the occurrence, assayed 0.17 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 12606).
In 1985, a sample (No. 020) of vein material assayed 0.27 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 14462).
In 1987, a sample (3401) of quartz vein hosting molybdenite assayed 0.113 per cent molybdenum (Assessment Report 16097).
In 2019, two rock samples (3293528-3293529) of oxidized siliceous fault material in a diorite with pyrite and chalcopyrite on the edge of a 2-metre wide shear zone, taken approximately 1.4 kilometres to the northwest of the occurrence, assayed 0.224 and 0.165 per cent copper (Assessment Report 38579).
Later work, in 2024, identified intensely silica-sericite-fuchsite–altered possible argillite, tuffaceous siltstone, lapilli tuff and quartz diorite hosting quartz veins and stockworks with massive sulphide pods, ranging in size from less than 50 centimetres to greater than 2 metres diametre. Sulphides are primarily pyrite with minor chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite and possible molybdenite. This zone is located approximately 250 metres upslope to the southwest of the plotted location of the occurrence. A sample (181445) assayed 0.212 per cent copper (Assessment Report 42177).
Work History
In 1964, E. M. Wilson staked the original Pogo 1-4 claims and completed a program of geological mapping, prospecting and geochemical sampling.
In 1983 and 1984, Noranda Mining and Exploration Inc. conducted programs of geological mapping and geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling on the area immediately northwest as the NTI 1-4 claims. During 1985 through 1987, JBL Resources completed programs of geological mapping, prospecting, geochemical sampling, ground geophysical surveys and two diamond drill holes, totalling 99.5 metres, on the area as the Cow 12-16 claims. Also in 1986 and 1987, International Cherokee Developments Ltd. conducted a program of geological mapping, trenching, geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling and a 4.3 line-kilometre ground magnetic and electromagnetic (VLF) survey on the area immediately northwest as the Mike property.
In 2019, Kootenay Zinc Corp. conducted a program of geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the area as the Angus Property.
In 2024, Fields of Gold Corp. conducted a program of geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling on the area as the C3 property.
