The Man III (Cow 7) occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 600 metres, south of Waldon Creek and approximately 5.7 kilometres northeast of the community of Lake Cowichan.
Regionally, the area is underlain by chert, siliceous argillite and siliciclastic rocks of the Mississippian to Pennsylvanian Fourth Lake Formation (Buttle Lake Group), calc-alkaline volcanic rocks of the Middle to Upper Devonian Nitinat Formation (Sicker Group) and volcaniclastic rocks of the Middle to Upper Devonian Mclaughlin Ridge Formation (Sicker Group). These rocks are intruded by granodiorite and quartz diorite of the Early to Middle Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite and gabbroic to dioritic rocks of the Triassic Mount Hall Gabbro. Undivided sedimentary rocks of the Upper Cretaceous Nanaimo Group locally overlay the previous units.
The occurrence is underlain by massive basaltic flows, vesicular flows, tuffs, andesitic tuffs, cherty tuffs and argillite. Granodiorite and diorite plugs are exposed in the area. The area is highly faulted and major folds are present. The Paleozoic Sicker Group rocks have undergone greenschist metamorphism.
Locally, on the former Man III claim, a volcaniclastic fragmental unit (tuffs, cherty tuffs and volcanics) hosts chalcopyrite mineralization in a gangue of quartz with heavy malachite staining associated with near-vertical shear zones striking approximately east-west.
Approximately 350 to 500 metres upslope to the southwest, an area of cherty sediments hosts lenses of rhodonite, jasper boulders and an area of iron formation on the former Man I claim.
Work History
In 1986 and 1987, International Cherokee Development completed a program of geochemical sampling, geological mapping, prospecting and ground geophysical surveys as the Cow 7 claim of the Chem property. Three rock samples (352, 1585, 1595) from the zone yielded values from 0.34 to 1.26 grams per tonne gold, 11.8 to 19.0 grams per tonne silver and 1.04 to 1.58 per cent copper, and a sample (1616) from the area of rhodonite-bearing rocks assayed 14.8 per cent manganese (Assessment Report 15013, 16053).
In 1992, GLS Global Listing Service Limited completed a program of rock and soil sampling on the area as the Cow 7, 9-11 claims of the Chem property. Samples (9154 and 302) of ash tuff with disseminated pyrite yielded values of up to 0.150 gram per tonne gold and 11.66 per cent arsenic (Assessment Report 22329).
In 1998, the area was prospected by R. Walton as the Lookout and Man claims. A sample (RW 26) of chlorite schist feldspar porphyry, near the shear zone, yielded values of 0.325 grams per tonne gold, 10.8 grams per tonne silver and 0.472 per cent copper (Assessment Report 25885).
In 2019, Kootenay Zinc Corp. conducted a program of geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the area as the Angus Property.
